Ruth Jones says 'not gonna happen' in response to huge pop star coming to Wales (original) (raw)

Fan-favourite Gavin & Stacey character Nessa, played by the series' co-creator Ruth Jones, has sent a message to singer Beverley Knight ahead of her performance in the Welsh capital this week. Knight, whose headline show is at Cardiff's Utilita Arena this Thursday, September 26, was teased by the beloved character who said she might even make an appearance at the show.

In a video shared to Knight's Instagram, Ruth Jones as her Nessa alter-ego said: "Oh Bev! What's occurin'? The question was rhetorical, we all knows what's occurin' - you're performing Thursday night at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff. Now look I knows you want me to join you on stage but it's not going to happen, cause quite frankly, I can't be arsed.

"But I will give you this - you're a crackin' little singer so I might just come and sit in the audience and cheer you along - orite? Cracking. Tidy. Have a good one."

Knight, who was applying makeup throughout the video which appeared to be filmed while she was getting ready for her performance in Wolverhampton last night, seemed thrilled by Nessa's proposition, shouting "Come on!" For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter

The pair recently performed together in the West End revival of Sister Act, with Jones starring as Mother Superior alongside Knight as Deloris Van Cartier. When joining the show, Jones said: "I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre," Ruth Jones said in a statement. "It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous! I can’t wait!"

It is the fourth week of filming for the upcoming Christmas special of the beloved BBC comedy, which has meant that Jones and the wider Gavin & Stacey cast have been based in South Wales, so we will have to wait and see if Nessa does really turn up in the audience of Knight's show.
