'Overhwhelmed' Sherwood viewers 'unwell' as beloved character killed off (original) (raw)

On Sunday night's instalment of the BBC drama Sherwood audiences were left reeling by a harrowing turn of events that saw one of the characters tragically lose their life. Peace seemed on the horizon for Daphne Sparrow, portrayed by Lorraine Ashbourne, when Ann, played by Monica Dolan, was handcuffed for murder, much to Harry's (Michael Balogun) satisfaction.

During the arrest of both Ann and Roy (Stephen Dillane) Harry couldnt contain his anticipation: "I've been waiting a long time to say this," he declared as he read them their rights. Daphne breathed a sigh of relief with her adversaries finally behind bars, prompting her to unveil secrets of her own. Across the kitchen table from her husband Mickey (Philip Jackson), she divulged her secret life as an undercover officer not knowing he had been aware all this while. In what appeared to be an affectionate exchange, Mickey silenced her revelations with "save it for the long road", unaware of the ominous fate that awaited him, reports the Express. The following day brought unexpected news: Ann was set free after Roy took sole responsibility. The authorities dropped police protection, leaving them in the dark about Ann's location. Realising the danger, Daphne hurried home to alert Mickey of Ann's release, but tragedy struck before she could reach him. In a brutal confrontation Ann caught up with Mickey first and fatally shot him. Mickey's final plea, "Just me, no others", resonated in desperation to protect his family.

By the time Daphne rushed back, Ann had fled, and she was met with the devastating sight of Mickey bleeding out on the floor. In one of the series' most poignant moments, she lay beside her dying husband. Sherwood enthusiasts were left heartbroken by the harrowing scene of Mickey's murder. A viewer posted on X: "Mickey saying 'just me' finished me whilst that evil woman starred in his dying eyes. After their beautiful talk. I'm absolutely broken #Sherwood."

Another fan expressed their distress: "I am unwell #sherwood", and there was praise too for the performers, with a comment stating: "B****y hell, how good was that. Lorraine Ashbourne has just delivered a masterclass in acting. In tears #Sherwood." Another simply read: "Well that was a little bit too overwhelming #sherwood".
