One of seaside town's famous colourful cottages is going up for auction (original) (raw)

Some auction lots create a higher level of intrigue than others; producing a more excited response from people perusing the online auction sites could be classed as fairly rare.

The good news is there's a pretty pink house about to go under the hammer that arguably ticks all those boxes, and not just because it is wearing an eye-catching colour on its façade.

In fact, its pretty in pink cloak is not as unusual as you might think because this tempting auction property is in the Ceredigion coastal town of Aberaeron, famous for its multiple rows of Georgian and Victorian terraces, the vast majority of which also boast a beautiful and eye-catching shade. The town is a friendly and vibrant community packed full of colourful joy and a unique history that explains its uniform layout and pleasingly symmetrical and similar houses, due to its unique history.

According to website Coflein the town's unique layout was planned by the Reverend Alban Thomas Jones around 1805 and designed by architect Edward Haycock as an ambitious project to improve the harbour to create a more usable port.

The pretty central square is named after Alban but also pivotal to the development of the location was Haycock, and the duo's efforts won them much praise including the description of Aberaeron as 'one of the best examples of a planned township of small scale in Wales'.

But it is quite unusual to see one of Aberaeron's colourful abodes up for sale, so that's the first thing to notice here, as well as a guide price of just £150,000 which is surely going to quickly rise until one lucky bidder wins the fight to pick up the keys.

The house is located just off the main retail and restaurant road that meanders through the town and so it's not a surprise to discover that it used to be a combined commercial and residential property - which explains the two front doors and the big bay window.

The house would be ideal as a home with a business operating again to provide income, says the auction house, or you could keep it all to yourself and transform it into your dream home by the sea.

The pink property is being sold online by Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £150,000+ with bids starting from noon on Tuesday, October 1 and ending from 5pm on Thursday, October 3, so if you love it you need to move quickly - call 01633 254044 to find out more.
