Queen Camilla's three-word nickname among Clarence House staff (original) (raw)

The nickname given to Queen Camilla by staff at Clarence House has been revealed, shedding light on her role within the Royal Family. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, Camilla stepped up as Charles took the throne.

In his inaugural address, King Charles III praised his wife for her "loving help" and steadfast "loyal public service." Queen Camilla was crowned alongside King Charles III on May 6, 2023.

Despite achieving this status, Hilary Rose, a journalist and author, notes that Camilla's journey to royalty wasn't always certain, with the late Queen initially referring to her as "that wicked woman". However, as detailed in Rose's 'The Secret Diary of Queen Camilla', the bond between the two women warmed over their shared love of horses and dogs.

This shift led to Queen Elizabeth II declaring in 2022 her "sincerest wish" that Camilla be named Queen Consort upon Charles' accession. Since embracing her Royal responsibilities, the Queen Consort has become increasingly visible in Royal duties, particularly as King Charles faced a cancer diagnosis.

Compounding the family's trials, Kate Middleton also announced her battle with cancer, leading Prince William to focus more on his wife and their children, as reported by the Express.

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step back from Royal duties in January 2022, and Princess Anne's hospitalisation after a horse-riding accident in June, Queen Camilla has been commended for her increased Royal responsibilities. Ms Rose observed that she has embraced these duties with a youthful vigour and sunny disposition.

In a piece for the Daily Mail, Ms Rose dubbed Camilla "the lady boss", a moniker bestowed by some staff at Clarence House. A friend of Camilla's was quoted saying that she has thrived "just by being herself". They further noted that Camilla is not a person who can be easily swayed, nor is she given to dramatic tantrums.

Ms Rose also underscored the relief provided by Camilla's serene and composed manner amidst the turmoil involving Harry and Meghan and the scandal concerning Prince Andrew. The Marchioness of Lansdowne praised Camilla's resilience and strong sense of duty in a chat with The Sunday Times, stating that these attributes have served her well.

Tina Brown, in her book The Palace Papers, proposed that if Camilla had a family motto, it would be "thou shalt not whine". On Saturday, September 28, Camilla was in attendance at Holyrood as Charles addressed MSPs during a ceremony commemorating the Scottish Parliament's 25th anniversary. He discussed the mutual challenges we face due to the perilous alterations in our planet's climate and the severe reduction of its biodiversity.

The King, clad in a kilt, conveyed his hopeful outlook at the gathering, noting he looks forward to this marking "the beginning of the next chapter". His comments were part of a speech where he reminisced about Scotland being a "uniquely special place" for the Royal family.
