The exact locations of mobile speed cameras across Wales for October 2024 (original) (raw)

No matter what part of Wales you live in or travel to, you will likely find mobile speed camera operations in place to clamp down on drivers breaking the speed limit. GoSafe, which is the Wales road casualty reduction partnership, operates marked vans and motorcycles spread throughout towns and cities.

They are manned by fully-trained police staff or police officers who monitor the speed of vehicles passing the vans. Once they form the opinion that the vehicle is exceeding the speed limit they use equipment to record it – often resulting in prosecution. A device called a speedscope can be trained on vehicles up to 1,000m away although most work is carried out far closer, GoSafe has said.

The time, date, speed, distance, site coding, and whether the vehicle is travelling towards or away from the checkpoint is recorded on the image to produce to the offending driver.
