Police name man who they have charged with murdering woman (original) (raw)

Police have charged a man with murdering a 46-year-old woman. Georgina Dowey's body was found at an address in Beaconsfield Street, Cadoxton, Neath, on Sunday May 7.

Tonight, detectives said that the man they arrested - 48-year-old Mathew Pickering - has now been charged with Ms Dowey's murder. South Wales Police said it is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell, said the deceased's family have been informed of the news and are continuing to be supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

He said: “My thoughts remain with Georgina’s family who are understandably devastated by what has happened. I would like to thank the local community and witnesses for the support they have provided to this investigation to date. We are not looking for anybody else in connection with Georgina’s death. There has been an increased police presence in Cadoxton since Sunday and this will continue over the coming days as enquiries continue.”

Police said that despite the development with their investigation into Ms Dowey's death, they are still appealing to members of the public to come forward with information. Anybody with information is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting reference 2300147389.
