Man secretly filmed woman performing sex act on him (original) (raw)

A man secretly filmed a female performing oral sex on him, a court has heard. Though the sex act was consensual and legal the victim did not know she was being recorded. Samuel Ace subsequently shared the video with another woman he was having a "sexual conversation" with.

Ace's barrister told Swansea Crown Court his 21-year-old client had done a "foolish thing as a young man". He also said that in previous times people had to take their films into Boots to get them processed and printed and it may be that young people are now more disinhibited about taking photos because all it requires is the press of a button. As a consequence of his offending Ace has been placed on the sex offenders register.

Alycia Carpanini, prosecuting, said the video in question was shot in 2023 and showed a female performing oral sex on a male who was wearing a pair of "pink lace knickers". She said the subject matter was illuminated, apparently by the flash on a phone, while the background was in darkness. The court heard Ace subsequently shared the video with another woman during the course of a "sexual conversation" with her. The court heard the victim was aged under 18 at the time of the incident. Miss Carpanini said though the defendant had by his own admissions shared the video with another person the prosecution was not pursuing a count of distribution against him.

In a brief victim impact statement from the female depicted in the video she said she felt degraded, embarrassed, and ashamed that she had been filmed without her consent. She also said she was receiving counselling to help her come to terms with what had happened.

Samuel Ace of Woodville Road, Mumbles, Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to voyeurism when he appeared in the dock for sentencing. He has no previous convictions. Dyfed Thomas, for Ace, said the defendant came from a good family and had "done a foolish thing as a young man" and had learned his lesson. He said at one time people had to take their camera films into Boots to be developed but it may be a "disinhibitor" for young people to take photographs now when all that was required was the press of a button.

Recorder Greg Bull KC said Ace had recorded the oral sex in order to, a later date, "satisfy his own sexual needs" and had committed a serious criminal offence. He said he was satisfied the defendant now realised what he did was wrong and he said he accepted his contrition was genuine. With a 20% discount for his guilty plea Ace was given an 18-month community order and was ordered to complete a rehabilitation course and do 50 hours of unpaid work in the community. Ace will be placed on the sex offenders register for next five years. The female in the video has lifelong legal anonymity.
