Roofers dump huge pile of rubbish outside man's front door (original) (raw)

A pensioner has been left shocked after roofers left a mountain of construction waste outside his house blocking part of his driveway. Robert Rowlands, 88, arranged for the roof tiles at his house in Pentrebane to be replaced and was invoiced £6,500 by Apex Roofing Repairs Ltd based in Cardiff.

His family told WalesOnline that work began on September 12 but instead of bringing a skip the workers left the discarded tiles in a pile on his driveway. Mr Rowlands' family said they have asked the company "most days" to remove the waste and are often told it will be done the same day or the next.

But after more than three weeks the debris is still there. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

Mr Rowlands said: "It's been about three weeks now I've been waiting for it to be moved. In the beginning I believed them but it never came to fruition. I want to get that lot cleared – it's driving me around the twist."

One family member, who did not want to be named, said: "They should have had a skip and removed it... not dumped it there. [Mr Rowlands] has had a number of falls and has had three mini-strokes in the last year. He uses a walking frame and he doesn’t go out very often. He is getting very angry and het up about this and we’re really worried now."

A section of the driveway was blocked and the family said they had to clear a path through the debris. Another section was left clear but Mr Rowlands said it was too steep for him to walk down. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news.

A spokesperson for Apex Roofing has been contacted for comment. A worker confirmed over the phone that they did not use a skip and said they were waiting for a time slot for a third party to come and pick the debris up. They also claimed Apex, and not the family, cleared the path.
