A man drowned in the sea while on holiday with his family in Turkey, an inquest opening has heard. Philip Terrence Jarvis, 73, did not return back to his hotel after going for a swim in Antalya.
An inquest opened by coroner Patricia Morgan at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Tuesday heard how Mr Jarvis was later found "unresponsive and motionless" in the water. Mr Jarvis, of Aberrhondda Road, Porth, was pronounced dead despite efforts by emergency services.

Reading a summary of the circumstances of his death coroner's officer Catherine Burnell said: "Mr Jarvis was on holiday with his family. On September 9, 2022, he went for a walk along the beach and into the sea for a swim. His wife did not see him for around 30 minutes and went back to the hotel assuming he would meet her there.
"A short while later his son saw two ambulances attend the beach. He noticed paramedics were treating his father and he was told Mr Jarvis was found unresponsive and motionless in the water. Unfortunately despite the efforts of paramedics Mr Jarvis sadly passed away. The deceased was identified by his family on September 9, 2022."
A post-mortem examination was carried out by a doctor in Turkey in September 2022, she said. The pathologist provided a provisional cause of death of 1a. drowning in water and 1b. advanced cardiovascular disease. The coroner provided the family with a requested cremation certificate. A full inquest will be heard at a later date.
