A woman has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a dog in the street. Emergency services were called to Morris Street in the Cwmaman area of Aberdare on Wednesday afternoon, October 9.

South Wales Police urged people to avoid the area while they dealt with the incident. Police said the dog bite caused an injury which required medical attention but "isn't life threatening or life changing". For the latest Rhondda news, sign up to our newsletter here.

They added the dog's owner had been located, and said the dog, not thought to be a banned breed, had been secured by officers. In a post issued on Facebook at around 2.45pm on Wednesday, police confirmed that they were at the scene and advised people to avoid the area.

They said: "We are currently dealing with an incident at Morris street west, Cwmaman, Aberdare. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and to use alternate routes if possible. We thank you for your patience."

In a statement shared later in the afternoon, a spokesperson said: "At approximately 2pm we were notified that a dog had bitten a woman in Morris Street, Aberdare causing an injury which required hospital treatment but isn't life threatening or life changing. The dog's owner was located and the dog, which is not believed to be a banned breed, has been secured by officers.

"People were urged to stay clear of the area as a precaution."
