Lowe and Schumacher eye Pilgrims situation

The Sun report Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher are keeping tabs on what's happening at their former club Plymouth Argyle amid growing pressure on Wayne Rooney's shoulders at Home Park.

Rooney was only appointed the Pilgrims' manager in the summer but it hasn't been a smooth start to life in Devon for the former Manchester United and England star. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

A 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at the weekend should alleviate speculation heading into the international break, but the attendance of both Lowe and Schumacher at the game will only add fuel to the fire.

The managerial duo remain in the reckoning with bookmakers to replace Erol Bulut in the Bluebirds dugout.

Goals from Michael Obafemi and Morgan Whittaker secured the three points for the south coast club, which moved them up to 14th in the Championship standings.

Rooney was sent off late on in the match after remonstrating with the official over a perceived foul in the build-ups to Rovers' equaliser.

Plymouth head to Cardiff City Stadium in the first game after the international break on October 19.

Jones speaks out after abuse

Nathan Jones says he's committed to Charlton despite being "absolutely abused" by his own fans at a recent game.

The Addicks beat promotion favourites Birmingham City at the weekend but Jones came in for some serious criticism from his own supporters last week following their defeat to Bristol Rovers.

“If I’m not wanted here and continue to get abuse – and they are questioning everything I do then fine, no problem – I’ll hand the reins over,” said the Charlton boss. “I don’t want that to happen. I want to be here.

“I want the fans to enjoy it. I want days like today. I understand the frustration. I understand the frustration of certain players when they are not in the team, so on and so forth, because I have been there and done that.

“I want to be here with this football club. I love the club. I love the people. But we have to be united, because if there are factions – I understand it – but we need an equilibrium. Since I’ve been here we’ve had more good times than bad. So let’s continue that.”

He added: "I want to be here and build something. I would like us to be really successful and me to enjoy everything about being a manager at Charlton Athletic – that’s what I want.”
