I'd never fork out for an Apple watch but this Amazon alternative is perfect (original) (raw)

As a fitness enthusiast, I have toyed with the idea of getting a smart watch for many years but have always been put off by the price. The fitness watch market is vast with many of the popular and highly rated watches retailing for hundreds of pounds, but I found an Amazon alternative for only £32.99.

The Jugeman Smart Watch in black, originally £99.99, is now at a lower price of £24.99 this Amazon Prime Big Deal Days (October 8 and 9). Whilst I was at first sceptical that the lower price would mean lower quality, I was quickly proven wrong.

Setting up the smartwatch, which also comes in orange, pink, purple and beige, was simple, all you had to do was download a free mobile phone app and connect to the watch via Bluetooth. I have heard from people who own high-end models that they lose battery quickly so I was very impressed that the watch came with 92% charge and still has over 50% of battery left a week later.

Features of the Jugeman Smart Watch include the tracking of your steps, distance walked, BPM, blood oxygen level, calories used and your sleep. You are also able to make and receive calls, receive messages, check the weather where you are and control the music on your phone. It is water-resistant, however the manufacturers do not recommend it for swimming.

But the most interesting and insightful feature of the watch for me has to be the sleep tracker. It can determine how much deep sleep, light sleep, eye movement and REM I have each night as well as each time I woke up throughout the night too. I found that the mornings that I would wake up the most tired, my watch would show that I had only a short period of deep sleep and when I woke up feeling well-rested my watch would prove that I had a longer amount of deep sleep.

Going forward, it's a great tool to monitor something I'd never thought about - my sleep quality - and how I can, in the future improve that, something which will only make my training in the gym easier.

On that note, the rubber straps of the watch make it comfortable to wear whilst sleeping too.

During my trial of the Jugeman Smart Watch, I set a goal of 8,000 steps a day which some days I was able to achieve. Tracking my steps made me more determined each day to make sure I am reaching my daily goal. It also saw me reassess my regular workout plans. Through using the watch to track my workouts, I found that I was not burning as many calories that I would have hoped for. Now I adjust to more cardio to make sure I am burning more calories to reach my goals.

It's surprising how accurate all the features of the Jugeman Smart Watch are. In perhaps what is the oddest use of the watch, for review purposes, I attended [a police raid](http://'I went on a police raid at a house where officers searched inside children's toys for drugs') as part of my job and was able to look back on the mobile app to see that at that exact time my heart rate spiked to 117BPM. A thrilling moment for a reporter, perhaps not on everyone's smart watch tick list, though.

Also, the sleep feature tracked the exact time I woke up to use the toilet during the night accurately as well.

Overall, I am very happy with the Jugeman Smart Watch and am glad that I didn't fork out £100s on another brand's version when this one does everything I need it to do and more.

It ticks all the boxes someone who attends the gym and works out regularly, would want it to and it is user friendly as well as affordable.
