Man 'gobsmacked' after bagging 'bargain' hotel room for £12.80 (original) (raw)

An experienced budget-conscious traveller who bagged an overnight stay for just £12.80 has taken social media by storm. Zac Jones, whose TikTok handle is @zacjonesliverpool, recently documented his visit to the Highbury Hotel in Blackpool.

Upon entering his room, he was greeted by a throwback to the 80s with a blue patterned carpet and basic amenities including a shelf with a kettle, a chest of drawers and even a flatscreen TV on the wall as he called it "vintage". Showcasing his modest accommodation, Zac continued: "We have a vintage room tonight," as he highlighted the low-set double bed adorned with a plain brown duvet set.

Despite noting the room's slightly soiled state, he said: "A bit dirty, but £12.80 this is not bad is it? You've even got a television, a kettle, tea and coffee". Zac then showed his surroundings, revealing his window-framed views of adjacent buildings but, sadly, no beautiful coastal vistas.

However, a close inspection of one chair showed stain-marked white fabric as he, understandably, said: "I definitely don't think I'll be using that chair," reports the Daily Record.

With his UV light ready for action, Zac went on to discover deceased flies in a drawer and proceeded to inspect the mattress saying: "Not a terrible first impression. It's not perfect, there's a few stains, but I don't think this is going to be bedbug infested."

Despite some stains, he said: "You know what, for £12.80 a night I'm impressed" before his face showed slight revulsion upon discovering dirt around the shower seal in the en-suite bathroom that initially seemed immaculate. Looking at the bathroom mirror and toilet he said: "I've seen worse but there are a couple of hairs."

He concluded his inspection with an upward nod towards the window, revealing faux flowers resting in mould, yet affirming, "But for £12.80? I'm taking this all day". His followers chimed in on the value deal with one responding: "For £12.80 that is a serious bargain."

"How anyone can complain for that price? " another TikToker said while a third confessed: "Honestly as far as there's no bed bugs and the bedding was washed I'd be fine with that". Echoing the sentiment, a fourth commended: "Cheaper than a hostel. it's fantastic for that price. I've slept in worse and paid 10x" whilst another said: "Can't complain about anything for that price. Warm dry room for the price of a kebab."

A sixth humorously calculated that living in the room permanently would cut living expenses compared to private renting, stating: "You could pay 358.40 every month to live here, for someone who is homeless say, this would be an absolute saving grace" as they praised the facilities, naming "Warm bed, kettle, tv etc."
