Remaining Dave Chappelle shows canceled (original) (raw)
YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) – The remainder of Dave Chappelle’s shows at Wirrig Pavilion have been canceled.
There were six more shows scheduled including one Friday night.
A statement from Chappelle’s wife Elaine in a closed Facebook group says the shows are ending a week earlier than planned.
“We take COVID-19 very seriously and there have been no reported cases among patrons or crew,” the post reads. “However, due to a possible exposure within our inner circle, and out of an abundance of caution, we have elected to cancel the remaining six shows.”
The post says all tickets were automatically refunded.
Terry Wayne drove 16 hours from West Palm Beach, Florida to see Chappelle’s show.
“You know, hundreds of dollars worth of gas and hotel rooms and well what can you do, you got to be responsible, if something happens, you just have to suck it up, I guess,” Wayne said.
Jeff Jones made the trip from Kent, Ohio as a birthday gift for his girlfriend.
“To drive here three hours, we found out three hours before the show that it was cancelled, it’s very disappointing, but I understand totally safety is the number one concern,” Jones said.
Both say while it is disappointing, they understand why it had to happen.
“Now we’re just going to try to enjoy Yellow Springs and whatever it has to offer,” Wayne said.
“We decided to hang out, have dinner, and just have drinks and try to make it the best we could,” Jones said.
The Miami Township (Greene County) Zoning Board in August approved Chappelle’s use of the pavilion for a series of comedy shows. Crowd sizes were limited and social distancing guidelines were followed.
