Marktplein Apeldoorn - West 8 (original) (raw)

In the revitalization of Apeldoorn’s public Market Square- a monumental Market Hall, inspired by the architecture of classic Central and Western European markets, market halls and town halls, creates an iconic flexible space with protection from the elements.

Plan of Apeldoorn's Market Square. Prior to renovation, the Square was a blank slate in a state of disrepair. The redesign created a cozier space- variation in paving colors and patterns break up the square into smaller space while additional greenery, amenities for seating, a playful fountain, as well as the covered Market Hall ensure that there is a space for everyone on the square. The design was constructed on top of a parking garage- with additional space made for parking bicycles. This design was chosen through an inclusive voting process by the residents of Apeldoorn.

The new Market Square creates a warm, inviting space that connects better with the surrounding cafes and businesses.

In addition to the weekly markets, the new Square is the perfect location for events including concerts, fun runs, sporting events, and festivals.
