Monday Night Football week 5: Saints vs Chiefs

The New Orleans Saints head to Kansas City to see if they can be the first team to beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Chiefs in week 5's Monday Night Football game.

The Saints started the season off hot, with a pair of blowout victories where they had the best offense in the league, amassing 91 points. However, they've now dropped two straight games and have only scored 36 points in the two losses combined. Part of the offensive struggles is that quarterback Derek Carr has thrown two interceptions to only one touchdown, while star running back Alvin Kamara has been held to less than 100 yards rushing in back to back weeks. Not helping that has been injuries to the Saints' offensive line, where they will be starting their third-string center on Monday Night. That could put pressure on the Saints defense to keep the game close so, though they have been a slightly below average unit in yards allowed per game thus far. They're bend but don't break, however, as the team is top 10 in points allowed through four games, and they're also pretty solid at generating turnovers.

The Chiefs have started 4-0, but it's been a bit shaky if most are being honest. Every game has been one possession and a couple were won on literally the final plays of the game. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has not looked his best to start the season, as he has thrown five interceptions through four games and just six touchdowns. Not helping are the injuries to offensive playmakers, including running back Isiah Pacheco, wide receivers Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, all of whom have been placed on injured reserve and will miss much of the season. That limits the Chiefs offensive options a bit. The good news for the Chiefs is their defense has been playing solid, led by linebacker Nick Bolton and defensive lineman Chris Jones. They may have to continue to carry the load unless/until the offense figures out how to get out of their recent funk.
