Inside No 9 season 9 marks the end of the anthology series after being on our screens since 2014 and we're sad to see it go - even if we do think it's the right decision!

Once again, there are six stand-alone stories, each set in a different location, the style and tone changing each week.

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton have become masters at shocking fans and keeping them guessing, and they've gone out with a bang as they say farewell to their now iconic series.

In a statement at the start of the season, they said: "It is with mixed emotions that we announce we have started filming the final series of Inside No. 9. We overheard some crew members the other day describe us as ‘a couple of Wonkas’ and that seems an apt description. We take the finest ingredients (stellar casts and creatives) and blend them with our secret recipe to produce unique confections that are delicious and often deadly.

"It has been the greatest privilege to have been allowed to make 55 wildly different episodes and we’ll miss the yearly challenge of trying to entertain and surprise our audience. We honestly feel like golden ticket winners - which makes us not a couple of Wonkas, but a pair of Charlies."

Inside No 9 season 9 release date

Inside No 9 season 9 started on BBC Two and iPlayer on Wednesday, May 8 at 10 pm. Episodes then aired each Wednesday in the same timeslot.

You can watch all episodes on BBC iPlayer now.

Time to say goodbye to #InsideNo9 having just wrapped series 9. This takes us to 55 episodes, a very decent innings. Mixed emotions but can’t wait to share what we’ve made.@ReeceShearsmith pic.twitter.com/VdE8AhMWLpFebruary 1, 2024

Episode 1: Wednesday, May 8, Boo to a Goose

Late-night passengers get stuck in a tunnel when their train breaks down. Patiently, they wait for the replacement service until a nurse gets her purse stolen and tempers start to fray.

Episode 2: Wednesday, May 15, The Trolley Problem

Blake saves a man from leaping to his death from a bridge. Soaked through and in need of a hot drink, the poor guy probably just needs someone to talk to. Blake is a qualified psychotherapist, so that's good. But is it a good idea to bring a complete stranger back to his remote house in the middle of nowhere?

Episode 3: Wednesday, May 22, Mulberry Close

There's a new couple at No 9. The residents of Mulberry Close are keen to welcome their new neighbours, but there's something about Damon and Val that doesn't seem quite right.

Episode 4: Wednesday, May 29, CTRL, ALT, ESC

Jason, Lynne and their two teenage daughters try out their local escape room, The Killer’s Lair. It’s not really the girls’ idea of fun, but they love their dad, and he loves following the clues and solving the puzzles. Will they get out before they run out of time?

Episode 5: Wednesday, June 5, Curse of the Ninth

An Edwardian chiller, where a talented piano tuner is forced to confront the power of a centuries-old curse by the owners and servants of a large country house.

Episode 6: Wednesday, June 12, Plodding On

In the very last episode of Inside No 9, creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith went full meta and the episode was set at a party to celebrate the series, with guest stars from over the years in attendance. The comedy duo played versions of themselves, where we saw them coming to terms with the end of the series, and wondering if their professional relationship would suffer as a result. It was a fitting end to the series with plenty of references and easter eggs throughout.

Is there a trailer for Inside No 9 season 9?

Yes, and it looks like they're going out on a high! Here, we get a glimpse at some of Reece and Steve's characters this time around, as well as some guest stars. As ever, plot details are deliberately vague. We can't wait!
