Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines.
Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and others.
Wikidata also provides support to many other sites and services beyond just Wikimedia projects! The content of Wikidata is available under a free license, exported using standard formats, and can be interlinked to other open data sets on the linked data web.
2025-11-12: Temporary accounts were deployed on Wikidata. From now on unregistered editors will get a temporary account automatically assigned to them, instead of being identified by their IP addresses.

2025-10-15: The Wikidata development team held the Q4 Wikidata+Wikibase office hour for 2025. They presented their work from the past quarter and discussed what's coming next. Session log is available.
2025-06-19: Search by entity type goes live. The new Wikidata Search box is typeahead compatible and searches can be limited to only show results for Items, Properties, Lexemes or EntitySchema. See the original announcement.
