Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines.
Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and others.
Wikidata also provides support to many other sites and services beyond just Wikimedia projects! The content of Wikidata is available under a free license, exported using standard formats, and can be interlinked to other open data sets on the linked data web.
- 2025-03-15: The Vector 2022 skin will become the default Wikidata skin on March 15; see the full announcement.
- 2025-03: As part of the Open Data Day 2025, between March 1st and 15th, OSM and WikiProject India organise a Datathon and Mapathon.
- 2025-02-24: Wikimedia Brazil unveils QuickStatements 3.0, adding much requested community-wishlisted features.
- 2025-02: Data Reuse Days 2025 were held February 18–27: 8 days and 16 hours worth of sessions on using Wikidata to build applications and tools, share research and ideas. See Commons archive of presentations and recordings.
- 2025-01-15: The Wikidata development team held the Q1 Wikidata+Wikibase office hour for 2025. They presented their work from the past quarter and discussed what's coming next for 2025. Session log is available.
