Biography
James Henry Robert Innes-Ker, 6th Duke of Roxburghe, was the only surviving child of James Innes-Ker, 5th Duke of Roxburghe, and his second wife, the former Harriet Charlewood. He inherited his father's titles in 1823 at the age of seven. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford.
The Duke was married on December 29, 1836 to Susanna Stephania Dalbiac, the only child of Lt. Gen. Sir James Charles Dalbiac and his wife, Susannah (Dalton) Dalbiac. The Duchess would become a friend and Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria, becoming one of the Queen's longest serving ladies-in-waiting.
He was created a Knight of the Thistle in 1840 and served as Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire from 1873 until his death. He served as Lieutenant General of the Royal Company of Archers and as a governor of the National Bank of Scotland.
The 6th Duke of Roxburghe died while traveling through Italy. His funeral was held at Floors Castle and he was then interred in the aisle at Bowden Kirk, as reported in The Morning Post (London; Tuesday 6 May 1879, page 5).

James Henry Robert Innes-Ker was born on 12 July 1816. He was the son of James Innes-Ker, 5th Duke of Roxburghe and Harriet Charlewood.
