Effective date: August 19, 2025
This Addendum supplements and amends Wiley’s Privacy Policy to meet the specific requirements of the Personal Information Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and other applicable laws, regulations, and national standards. This Addendum does not apply to Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan.
This Addendum should be read in conjunction with our global Privacy Policy.

When we refer to “Wiley,” “our,” “we,” or “us,” we mean John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and its subsidiary and affiliate companies who decide how and why personal information is processed. 2. Your consent
By reading and acknowledging our Privacy Policy, you consent to (where applicable):
our processing of your personal information;
our processing of your sensitive personal information;
your personal information being transferred outside of the People's Republic of China (for the purpose of this Privacy Policy only, excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) if required to provide our services or products to you;
your personal information being shared with third parties who process your personal information for their independent purposes; and
your personal information being disclosed to the public.
If we do not have, or do not need, your consent, we may still process your personal information for purposes as required or permitted by applicable PRC laws, for example to fulfil a contract with you or to comply with applicable legal or regulatory obligations.
3. Types of personal information we process
The Privacy Policy, at section 1, sets out the types of personal information that we process. Some of that personal information may constitute sensitive personal information. This refers to personal information which, if leaked or illegally used, will easily lead to infringement of human dignity or harm to the personal or property safety of a natural person, such as government-issued identification numbers and credit or debit card numbers. We will only process your sensitive personal information where it is necessary to achieve a specific purpose. We will seek consent where this is needed, and we will take enhanced measures to protect such sensitive personal information.
4. Use of personal information
The Privacy Policy, at section 3, sets out the purposes for which personal information can be processed. Where that section refers to “legitimate interests”, Wiley recognizes that this is not a lawful basis permitted in the People’s Republic of China and will not be relied upon for processing the personal data of such residents. Instead, and where appropriate, we will ask for your explicit consent unless an alternative basis is more appropriate and is permitted under applicable PRC laws and regulations. Wiley processes personal information in line with the principles of lawfulness, legitimacy, necessity and good faith.
5. Sharing personal information
The Privacy Policy at section 4, describes the sharing of personal information. Where we share personal information with service providers who help us provide our activities and purposes, we will take measures to ensure adequate protection for your information, including technical and organizational security controls. In some circumstances where personal information is shared with third parties, those third parties will have their own independent purposes and means of processing your personal information. 6. International transfers
The Privacy Policy at section 6, explains international transfers of personal information. If you want to know more details about the overseas recipients, please contact us using the contact details at the top of this notice.
7. Retention period
The Privacy Policy at section 7, explains that personal information will only be kept for as long as necessary to carry out the specific purposes, to resolve disputes, and for any additional period required by law (e.g. reporting or accounting obligations).
8. Methods for exercising rights
The Privacy Policy at section 11, explains how to exercise the rights provided under data privacy laws. To exercise your rights you can send a request to the Data Privacy Team by email at privacy@wiley.com. Only you, your authorized representative, you on behalf of your child may send a request, or in limited circumstances your next of kin. For the protection of all individuals’ personal information, we will only process your request if we can reasonably verify that you are, or are the authorized representative of, the person whose personal information we hold.
9. Updates to our privacy policy
The Privacy Policy at section 14, explains that our Privacy Policies are periodically reviewed to ensure they remain up to date. Where required, any changes to our processing activities that require us to obtain new or refreshed consent will only be carried out following successful consent.
