Actor Andy Serkis explains how advances in motion-capture technology changed his acting experience in The Hobbit.

Serkis, who also worked as the second unit director on The Hobbit and recently co-founded a digital-effect house, called The Imaginarium, specializing in motion capture, explained how the technology had changed his acting experience and the “strange” experience of returning to his iconic role.

The Hobbit opens in theaters on Dec. 14.
