Home - Woody Woodmansey Musician (original) (raw)
Woody Woodmansey is best known as being the drummer from David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars. Woody came from a very humble background, growing up in Yorkshire, England. As a teenager he played drums in a few local bands but it was in 1970 when his life changed. His friend, Mick Ronson (renowned guitarist for Bowie) had moved to London and was in a band with David Bowie. He recommended to Bowie that Woody was the perfect drummer for their band and so David made the call and invited Woody to come to London and join them. His answer was “Yes!”. It was quite the adventure for the Northern Lad from Yorkshire… Little did he know that the band would take off and become a worldwide sensation. Woody has played drums on legendary albums such as Hunky Dory, The Man Who Sold the World and Aladdin Sane and has toured the world performing to thousands of fans. Woody’s drumming is notorious and goes down in history as one of the most iconic sounds from the 70’s.
Since his time with David Bowie, Woody has worked on many musical projects with phenomenal musicians such as Dexys Midnight Runners, Art Garfunkel, Paul McCartney, Edgar Winter and more. He is still drumming to this day and collaborating with brilliant musicians and artists.
“Woody’s thrilling high-paced, intricate beats left the crowd stunned at his overwhelming talent.”
