Over the course of her 12-plus years as a freelance writer, she’s reported on real estate, mortgages, investing and personal finance for a wide range of publications, including US News & World Report, Money, Business Insider, CBS News, Forbes, the Miami Herald, Bankrate, Fortune, the Balance, Builder Magazine, HousingWire and The Motley Fool. For the past three years, she has played a prime role in both honing and writing Money’s annual Best Places to Live list.

Prior to freelancing, Aly worked as a section editor and reporter for the Dallas Morning News, where she covered local news and helped lead efforts to encourage community journalism in the region. She also served as a production assistant for NBC and PBS.

Aly has a B.A. from the Bob Schieffer College of Communication at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, and served as the managing editor of the school’s daily newspaper, the Daily Skiff, as well as the assistant production director of the campus radio station, KTCU.
