Mwamba Reopens After Full Refresh

Mwamba Camp in South Luangwa National Park is up-and-running after an extensive series of upgrades.

The chalets now feature woven bamboo on the exterior and interior, with a layer of matting and a screen in between to keep out insects and other elements. The rooms are more spacious and come with private verandas that offer stunning views of the surroundings.

The Gardenia chalet has been relocated but remains within the gardenias, retaining its name and charm. This area has been thoughtfully redesigned to blend seamlessly with the natural environment.

The outside bathrooms have undergone a light touch-up and now feature solid paths, double basins complemented by copper tapware, beautiful live-edge mirrors, and showers tucked into the trees for a back-to-nature feel.

A major highlight of the revamp is the new deck, designed to offer a relaxing space with breathtaking views of the Mwamba River. It serves as a perfect spot for unwinding, providing an excellent vantage point for wildlife sightings. The camp has had plenty of elephants visit and lots of plains game grazing in front, underscoring the deck’s potential as a prime location for armchair safaris. This area also serves as the new breakfast deck.

For return visitors, Mwamba’s Last Waterhole Hide remains unchanged. It’s in a prime location, highly productive and continues to offer some of the best wildlife sightings in the park.
