University Launches New Magazine (original) (raw)
Western New England University has launched a new publication, WNE: The Magazine of Western New England University, in print and online. The biannual magazine explores stories drawn from a cross section of the University, highlighting faculty research, campus happenings, and alumni achievements.
“The stories in this inaugural issue demonstrate the extent to which our community members are having a powerful impact on our University and on our world, while offering a glimpse into the promising future we will shape together,” says Dr. Anthony S. Caprio, University President.
The cover story of the magazine explores efforts to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) learn to be more human. The feature profiles research by computer science professor Brian O’Neill on applications in creative endeavors, as well as the work of alumnus Chris Ilacqua using AI in commercial applications at the global software company Qlik.
Other stories in the inaugural issue of The Magazine of Western New England University include a feature highlighting how students and alumni are helping communities recover from natural disasters; a profile of new School of Law Dean Sudha Setty; a look inside the latest building project on campus, the spectacular University Commons; and the inspiring personal story of Dr. Debra Latour and the journey that led her to teaching in the University’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy program.
Along with the new print magazine, the University has developed a digital version, providing online access to stories and expanded versions of class notes and other features of the print version. The magazine debuts just a few weeks before Western New England University kicks off its Centennial celebration in 2019.
“This moment in our history presents an exciting opportunity to introduce a new publication that represents the entire University as a single entity–a united university with all its components working harmoniously together to achieve its goals and realize its full potential,” says President Caprio.
The new magazine is a joint effort of the University’s Alumni Relations and Marketing offices, with design and production support from New York-based Spark451, Inc. The print magazine is distributed to alumni, parents, and friends of Western New England University, while the digital magazine is available to the public at http://magazine.wne.edu.
