A champion's spread at Jefferson's, where for a promotion on Friday, any guests can bring a trophy, medal, certificate or other award to get a free all-beef hot dog. The promotion looks to celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It’s the dog days of summer at Jefferson’s — hot dogs, that is.

Jefferson’s Restaurants are celebrating the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a special promotion today, July 26, offering free hot dogs to any guest who brings in an award — whether it’s a participation trophy, certificate, medal, anything.

Brandon Graham, the president of Jefferson’s, said as the eyes of the world turn to Paris for what should be a thrilling 2024 Olympic Games, the restaurant wanted to do a fun promotion to celebrate victory as Team USA goes for the gold.

“We can’t wait to have our TVs tuned in to cheer on the American athletes for the next three weeks. And what’s a more American way to do it than with a free hot dog?” Graham said.

Ned Nelson, the vice president of Jefferson’s in Lawrence, said the restaurant wanted to try something fun and unique with the promotion.

Instead of just bringing in coupons, which can be “boring,” Nelson hoped the community interaction with showing something physical for the free frank can bring some liveliness to the day.

“If someone hears about the deal, they could grab the phone, call their friends and say ‘Hey, bring a trophy’ for some free food,” Nelson said. “It can be fun to see what people bring.”

At the downtown location in Lawrence, customers have already brought in a variety of trophies to show off their championship mettle, including a fantasy football league trophy and a tiki-themed baseball trophy.

Graham said with Jefferson’s love of bringing a game-day energy, he hopes to see all sorts of great awards from the champions in the restaurant — and to see Team USA earn some of its own. Graham said he is most excited for the Olympics’ track events, but knows that any great sports contest can be a way to escape into fun.

“It’s a celebration of sports and the relief that it can bring to everyone’s daily lives,” Graham said. “We’re excited to cheer on Team U.S.A. with a restaurant full of champs.”

The offer is valid all day July 26 at the two Jefferson’s locations in Lawrence. To get the free all-beef hot dog, guests have to dine-in at the restaurant and bring in a physical certificate, medal, award or trophy.
