Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a flying vehicle that is physically unmanned, controlled by a gr... more Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a flying vehicle that is physically unmanned, controlled by a ground-based controller with a remote control or can be moved autonomous or semi-autonomous depending on a flight plan. The use of UAVs has become widespread in recent years thanks to the development of technology and making them more accessible. The ability of UAVs to produce high accuracy 3D data and orthophoto images at low cost has also enabled the development of UAV photogrammetry. UAV-based systems are used in many fields such as agriculture, forestry, urban planning, earth events and disaster management, especially for military purposes. In this study, a simulation environment was created for the “Parrot Mini Drone”, a mini quadcopter that can withstand environmental conditions, has an adaptable, motion stability, and can shoot video at the same time, and a 3-dimensional model of an area where visual data is collected was obtained. With this study, developed using MATLAB & Simulink, a three-dimensional map of a specific area was created with the help of a quadcopter.

The use of non-medical masks or face covers changes communication for everyone, but this presents an additional challenge for people with hearing loss or communication difficulties. People with hearing loss may have difficulty hearing in difficult situations, such as in noisy places or when they cannot trust lip reading cues or body expressions. face. In this study, a survey is implemented where speech recognition level-based questions are asked to the participants. Then, the same questions are asked again for the cases where medical masks are worn. In doing so, participants are also asked to explain the main difference between the pandemic period and the time before pandemic. Results show that wearing a medical mask has a concrete impact on speech recognition and causes a degrade on hearing level.

In this study, we aimed to elaborate the correlation between air quality and Cardiovasculara, Cerebrovascular and Respiratory Diseases. Air pollution is the contamination of the internal or external environment of any chemical, physical or biological agents and the modification of the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. Pollutants that lead to serious health problems include particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. The study is conducted in the province of Kirklareli, Turkey. Although there is no industrial activity in the region, air pollution rates are very high.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number and variety of application s... more In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number and variety of application scenarios studied under the e-health. Each application generates an immense data that is growing constantly. In this context, it becomes an important challenge to store and analyze the data efficiently and economically via conventional database management tools. The traditional relational database systems may sometimes not answer the requirements of the increased type, volume, velocity and dynamic structure of the new datasets. Effective healthcare data management and its transformation into information/knowledge are therefore challenging issues. So, organizations especially hospitals and medical centers that deal with immense data, either have to purchase new systems or re-tool what they already have. The new data models so-called NOSQL, its management tool Hadoop Distributed File Systems is replacing RDBMs especially in real-time healthcare data analytics processes. It becomes a real challenge to perform complex reporting in these applications as the size of the data grows exponentially. Along with that, there is customers demand complex analysis and reporting on those data. Compared to the traditional DBs, Hadoop Framework is designed to process a large volume of data. In this study, we examine the query performance of a traditional DBs and Big Data platforms on healthcare data. In this paper, we try to explore whether it is really necessary to invest on big data environment to run queries on the high volume data or this can also be done with the current relational database management systems and their supporting hardware infrastructure. We present our experience and a comprehensive performance evaluation of data management systems in the context of application performance.

Investigating the incidence, type, and preventability of adverse drug events (ADE) and medication... more Investigating the incidence, type, and preventability of adverse drug events (ADE) and medication errors is crucial to improving the quality of health care service. ADEs, medications errors can be extracted from practice data, patients feedback and especially from medication order. In this study, we examine the dataset filled with medication orders and with a web service based approach, each medication order is analyzed to avoid from drug-drug interaction. Firstly, the study is performed on a training set to explore the drug-drug interactions based on the clinical drug component of each medication. Then the proposed web service approach is integrated into the actual centralized Medication Order Management System (MOMS) of the hospital. With this real time checking ADE mechanism, doctors are warned in case there is a possible ADE or a medication error between the medications.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental syndrome that is defined by unusual, restr... more Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental syndrome that is defined by unusual, restricted, and repetitive behaviors along with deficit in social reciprocity and communications . There isn’t any widely accepted treatment for ASD’s. In spite of great improvements in early diagnosis and interventions, most children diagnosed with ASD are unlikely to live independently upon reaching adulthood. As the number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) continues to grow in our country, we are reminded of the needs of this community.
Language skills of children with ASD may vary on a wide spectrum. Some children may have difficulty developing language skills and following a conversation. While some children with ASD may be unable to speak, others may have rich vocabularies and be able to talk about specific subjects in great detail. Their communication skills vary depending upon their social and intellectual development. In order to support their development, teaching reading to them is crucially important. Literacy programs which are based on visual learning style of children with ASD show more steady progress at their reading comprehension.
Following a rigorous and comprehensive research conducted on academic literature and software market, we conclude that there is lack of mobile educational applications designed to teach reading and writing in Turkish specifically to children with ASD. Our research objective is to develop mobile educational application software to teach reading and writing in Turkish to children with ASD. With regard to their visual learning style, Patricia Oelwein’s method (1995) is implemented to strengthen their comprehension through the stages of recognition, matching, selecting and naming.( Broun, 2004).
We use tablets and smart phones as our application’s environment as children with ASD show interest in experiencing them. There is also evidence that touch screens are easier to use for some children with ASD because they may have difficulties of using different physical devices such as screen, mouse and/or keyboard in coordination.

Blood donor volunteers constitute the main supply source in an effective blood supply chain management. They feed blood stocks through their donation. In an emergency situation, if the stocks are insufficient, the only source of blood supply will be the people who come to the health center and donate the blood on a voluntary basis. It is certain that time is a very important component in such situation. For this reason, the health care center should call the nearest available donor in order to ensure to get the service as quickly as possible. A smart phone application is developed to facilitate the identification of the nearest available blood donor volunteer and the communication with him/her in the emergency situations where the blood can’t be supplied through the blood banks’ stocks. In this paper this application will be presented.

The study is conducted in the province of Kirklareli, Turkey. Although there is no industrial activity in the region, air pollution rates are very high. With this project, we seek to determine the correlation between air quality and diseases of circulatory and respiratory systems. The health data is extracted Death Notification Systems of Turkish Republic's Ministry of Health, while the air quality data is provided by National Air Quality Monitoring Stations working under the auspices of Turkish Republic's Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In the study, a data analysis using the linear regression method is realized and discovered a significant percentage of correlation between these two data sets.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental syndrome that is defined by unusual, restr... more Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental syndrome that is defined by unusual, restricted, and repetitive behaviors along with deficit in social reciprocity and communications . There isn’t any widely accepted treatment for ASD’s. In spite of great improvements in early diagnosis and interventions, most children diagnosed with ASD are unlikely to live independently upon reaching adulthood. As the number of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) continues to grow in our country, we are reminded of the needs of this community.
Language skills of children with ASD may vary on a wide spectrum. Some children may have difficulty developing language skills and following a conversation. While some children with ASD may be unable to speak, others may have rich vocabularies and be able to talk about specific subjects in great detail. Their communication skills vary depending upon their social and intellectual development. In order to support their development, teaching reading to them is crucially important. Literacy programs which are based on visual learning style of children with ASD show more steady progress at their reading comprehension.
Following a rigorous and comprehensive research conducted on academic literature and software market, we conclude that there is lack of mobile educational applications designed to teach reading and writing in Turkish specifically to children with ASD. Our research objective is to develop mobile educational application software to teach reading and writing in Turkish to children with ASD. With regard to their visual learning style, Patricia Oelwein’s method (1995) is implemented to strengthen their comprehension through the stages of recognition, matching, selecting and naming.( Broun, 2004).
We use tablets and smart phones as our application’s environment as children with ASD show interest in experiencing them. There is also evidence that touch screens are easier to use for some children with ASD because they may have difficulties of using different physical devices such as screen, mouse and/or keyboard in coordination.

Blood donor volunteers constitute the main supply source in an effective blood supply chain management. They feed blood stocks through their donation. In an emergency situation, if the stocks are insufficient, the only source of blood supply will be the people who come to the health center and donate the blood on a voluntary basis. It is certain that time is a very important component in such situation. For this reason, the health care center should call the nearest available donor in order to ensure to get the service as quickly as possible. A smart phone application is developed to facilitate the identification of the nearest available blood donor volunteer and the communication with him/her in the emergency situations where the blood can’t be supplied through the blood banks’ stocks. In this paper this application will be presented.

Air pollution means that foreign matter in the air, which affects the health of humans and other living organisms negatively. In this study, we aimed to elaborate the correlation between air quality and Cardiovascular, Cerebrovascular and Respiratory Diseases. Air pollution is the contamination of the internal or external environment of any chemical, physical or biological agents and the modification of the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. The study is conducted in the province of Kirklareli, Turkey. Although there is no industrial activity in the region, air pollution rates are very high. With this project, we seek to determine the correlation between air quality and diseases of circulatory and respiratory systems. The health data is extracted Death Notification Systems of Turkish Republic's Ministry of Health, while the air quality data is provided by National Air Quality Monitoring Stations working under the auspices of Turkish Republic's Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In the study, a data analysis using the linear regression method is realized and discovered a significant percentage of correlation between these two data sets.
