Research paper thumbnail of Prevalence of Proteinuria and Hematuria in a Rural Population in the Southwest of Iran

Saudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation

Acute and chronic kidney diseases are common and are associated with the risk of kidney failure. ... more Acute and chronic kidney diseases are common and are associated with the risk of kidney failure. Early detection of these disorders prevents their progression to kidney damage in later stages. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of proteinuria and hematuria in a rural population in Yasuj, Iran. In this cross-sectional study, 676 people (350 females and 326 males) participated. People with positive dipstick test results entered the second screening and the urinary protein-to-creatinine ratio (UPCR) was measured. People with UPCR ≥150 mg/g were evaluated for demographic and biochemical indicators. In the initial screening, 72 subjects (10.6%) tested positive by the dipstick test with trace proteinuria or higher. The UPCR results showed that this ratio was above 150 mg/g in 42 patients (6.2%), which was approximately equivalent to more than 150 mg of protein excreted per day. There was no significant relationship between the prevalence of proteinuria and the demogra...

To compare the pain severity caused by the application of the Z-track and Airlock intramuscular injections. Methodology. Unblinded clinical trial, where 90 female subjects aged between 18 and 60 years old were randomly assigned to two groups; the first group received the tramadol intramuscular injection using the Z-track technique (ZT) and the second group received it through the airlock method (AL). A 10 centimeter linear visual scale was used to evaluate the injection pain. The scale length was considered as the pain severity. Data were analyzed using the SPSS version 13. Groups' age, Body Mass index (BMI), and pain intensity were compared using unpaired student's t test. Results. The study showed that the pain severity of patients in the AL method group was lower than in the ZT technique group (p<0.05). There was no significant statistical difference between the age, the number of injections previously applied and the BMI between the groups. Conclusion. AL method produced less pain than the ZT technique; therefore it can be considered a better choice for intramuscular injections.

One of the main problems is the lack of retention of doctors in the workplace, particularly in deprived areas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate factors associated with survival in the workplace of family physicians in the Kohgiloyeh and Boyer Ahmad province, Iran. Methods: In the present cross-sectional, analytical study, the target population included the total physician population practicing in health centers and cities with population under. Data collected through filling direct questionnaire and interviews and analyzed by the SPSS software and nonparametric chi-square test. Results: Fifty-five (75%) of the physicians participating in the study were male and 18 (25%) were female. There was a significant relationship between low facilities and family Physician retaining in their work place. In addition, there was a significant relationship between accommodation facilities and retaining of family physician in work place (p < %5). There was no significant relationship between salary rate and family physician retaining in their workplace and there was also no significant relationship between pay time and stay of family physician in the workplace Conclusion: Accommodating the family physician with proper facilities such as proper home leads to their retaining in their workplace in deprived areas.

Methods: This cross sectional descriptive study was conducted on 237 patients with high blood pressure in 2008. Subjects were selected by stratified random sampling. Data collection instrument was a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The gathered data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi square test. Results: The overall awareness and practice level of the patients were 78.5% and 35.5%, respectively. Overall performance of patients was 35.5%, and 85.2% of patients took the prescribed medicine as directed by their physician. 42.2 percent of patients had appropriate physical exercise and 4.2 percent had managed to quit smoking. Relationship between literacy and general awareness of patients was significant (P=0.001). The difference between the blood pressure prior and after the diagnosis was also significant (P<0.001). Systolic blood pressure of subjects has been increased by 1.26 mm Hg unit per year since the diagnosis of their hypertension. Correlation of knowledge and practices of the subjects showed that one point increase in the awareness of patients resulted in 0.12 points in their practices. (P=0.001). Conclusion: The present study revealed that education services to the target populations were consistent with national programming, but their performance in the field of medicine, diet, exercise and quit smoking program was not compliant. A further study to improve the performance of patients is recommended.

Methods: This experimental study was performed on 30 adult male Wistar rats weighing 50 ± 200 gr. To make the second degree burns wound at area of 2 square centimeters with boiling water, animals were anesthetized using sodium thiopental. The animals then divided into three equal groups randomly. Control group was washed with sailine every day. The second and the third groups were treated with 1% silver sulfadiazine ointment and Hypericum perforatum extract respectively. After thirty-five days of treatment, mice were anesthetized and tissue samples were taken for processing and staining with hematoxylin and eosin and examined under light microscope. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA Results: Average surface burns, thickness of the epidermis and malondialdehyde levels in HP treatment compared with 1% silver sulfadiazine was close to normal control but no significant differences was found between Hypericum perforatum extract and silver sulfadiazine at duration of treatment (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Although there was no statistically significant difference, but the restorative effects of HPtreated group compared with the other groups showed better result.
