The translation of holy Quran from Arbery (1955), Pikthal (1930), Shakir (2003), and Yousef Ali (1983) were selected. In order to have a general view of this verse the interpretations of Almyzan Commentary were presented. Moreover, these translations were analyzed according to Nida theory of translation. This theory analyzed the weak and strong points of each translation comparatively. Finally, the selection of the best equivalences to the AL-fatiha verse"s words based on Eugene Nida"s theory is done. It seems that in the Pickthal and Yousef Ali translations more "formal correspondences" are used, since they are faithful to the structure and the word order of the source language, however, they did not transfer the literary form of the surah. On the other hand, the last two translations are the ones that are more "dynamic". They are based on the structure of the target language; also have more information for better understanding of the readers.

These materials can be in the form of authentic listening, visual, and printed ones. The paper mentions the different genre approaches and this fact that New Rhetoric Group approach should be paid in our pedagogical milieu. We came to a conclusion that these authentic materials have not found their place in our textbooks.

One ESP class studying industrial management in Payam-e-Nour university of Sirjan consisting a total of 34 students who were all the researchers' students participated in this study. First of all, the metacognition awareness inventory was applied and then they took one progress test consisting vocabulary questions along with translation. To apply the correlation coefficient between the variables, first the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied and it confirmed the normality of the two variables. Then Pearson correlation coefficient was applied which revealed there was no relation between the two variables. Next it was time to compare the scores' means belonging to metacognition awareness between males and females. To this end, Leven test was applied which showed the variances were not equal betwee...

A successful research depends on an appropriate research method. Quantitative research methods usually provide data in numerical statistics and tend to reply to the question of how the identity of a person relates to the way that s/he uses that language. Qualitative research methods strive to analyze the quality of the human experience and explain why people act differently in different contexts. Some researchers have to use a method which combines the two, called, a mixed or triangulation one, where researchers utilize multiple sources of information. There are some similarities and differences between them. They have some features in common as they rely on observable facts, but they differ in data collection, data analysis, and nature of collected data.

Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by the students after following a set of English Instruction at school. One of the targets of national curriculum for English at junior high-school (SMP) level is students’ comprehension on various types of texts, such as recount, descriptive, and narrative. However, it is common that most students are observed being reluctant to read reading texts, even the short ones. Their lack of vocabulary mastery also limits their effort to achieve reading comprehension. The objective of this research is to find out whether using Mind Mapping technique is an effective way to increase the students’ ability in reading comprehension. The population of this research was the second year students of Iranian classes that consists of seven classes and two classes were chosen as the experimental class and the try-out class. This research is quantities research. The research design was one group pretest posttest design. In collectin...

Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to investigate the use of discourse markers (DMs) by Iranian EFL learners and find out the relationship between English proficiency and the pragmatic fossilization of DMs. In practice, the current study focuses on the use of DMs in speech. The data from the lower-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced English learners are used for the exploration of Iranian EFL learners’ DMs use. Some frequently used DMs in oral production have been analyzed; the results revealed that the fossilization of DMs is caused by English learners’ lack of acquiring the pragmatic functions of DMs as native speakers do. According to the result of this study, Iranian learners are not aware of the importance of DMs in constructing textual coherence. In this ca...

Ecocriticism emerged in the 1990s as a field of study that focuses on the relationship of human and nature. Hence, Romantic poetry and particularly William Wordsworth and Nader Naderpour’s poetry, are the most interesting subjects for the ecocritical studies in literature. William Wordsworth (1770-1850) is the greatest poet of Romantic age and a worshiper of nature. Also Nader Naderpour (1929-2000) is one of the contemporary Persian Poets whose poetry dealing with Romantic tendencies more than the other Iranian poets, he also makes intensive use of nature in his poems. Both Wordsworth and Naderpour compose poems about nature and through them they encourage the equality and harmony between nature and human beings. Due to the considering of nature in their poems, an ecocritical studying of them is applicable here. This comparative study aims at investigating different appro...

His political orientation can be traced in many of his poems, political pamphlets and journalistic writings. Many of his poems such as The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan are studied from a political point of view but the contribution of Coleridge's political beliefs to the poem The Raven has not been studied. Although a few studies have been done on this poem, it has been neglected to a great extent by scholars. This study tends to explore the symbolism manifested in The Raven in order to illustrate the political dimensions implicit in this poem. Certainly 'The Raven' has none of the political allusions and this has led most critics to concur that the poem exhibits a total lack of politics. Yet given the circumstances which gave rise to '...

For some people it is related to general knowledge and for others it is related to ways of life. Concerning latter, interestingly, it may define a whole bunch of choices that range from very simple categories like holidays to the flag of the target country or from food to special occasions. Pedagogically speaking, language teachers and planners are inevitably faced with the issue of selection of the cultural elements that are most applicable for their teaching contexts. On the other hand, other type of culture can be named art, literature, customs and everyday lives of a peculiar group form the culture. The confessional style of the poet in these works has created an atmosphere in which the description of a woman’s self-portrait seems plausible. Also, the fragmentary nature of her post-modernist poetry, discordant lines deprived of meter along with the cinematic jumps or cuts, impulsiveness and ambiguity of her style which makes the poems difficult to understand are representations of the confounded soul of woman who have been detached from their very essence of being and strives to regain their lost voice in words. To unravel the underlying factors in the systematization of a woman’s thoughts, a close examination of their unconscious reservoir needs to be applied. In order to fulfill this purpose, the Austrian-born Heinz Kohut (1931-1891)’s practices are used to investigate the formation of Self and its later development. It is supposed that an individual’s very essence of being ...

Although research of a similar nature has been done in other countries, the present study complements others by following 500 university learners and it provides another avenue for examining the language situation in Iran. To achieve this goal, Gardner’s socio-educational model and the significance of motivation as a contributing factor in second/foreign language (SL/FL) learning are taken into consideration. The questions to be addressed in this paper are: · What are the university learners’ attitudes for learning EFL?· What are the university learners’ motivations for learning EFL?· Does gender influence attitudes of Iranian learners for learning English as a foreign language?· Does gender influence motivation of Iranian learners for learning English as a foreign language?· Does a...

Such skills are needed for the students to develop a strong personality and an effective communication. Nelson and Low (2005) emphasize the importance of understanding emotional mind in order to develop such abilities in students that facilitate constructive thinking and wise action. Also, achievement emotions are defined as emotions that are directly linked to achievement activities or achievement outcomes. Previous studies on achievement emotions have focused on emotions related to achievement outcomes, including both prospective outcome emotions. This study has tried to analyse and review the existing literature in the area and compare the different sources of creativity and solutions to enhance emotion achievement in different academic settings as well as how these variables are likely to be correlated. The evaluation of some articles (e.g. Pekrun, 2006; Pekrun et al., 2010) showed that activity emotions pertaining to current achievement-related activities are also considered as achievement emotions. Examples are students' enjoyment of learning, boredom experienced during classroom instruction, or anger at the task demands of academic learning.

To do so, 120 intermediate EFL learners were selected based on convenient sampling procedure. Two instruments were used in this study: The Multiple Intelligences Developmental Assessment Scales (MIDAS) and Bar-On's Emotional Quotient inventory (EQ-i). The participants were asked to fill out the questionnaires and turn them back to the researchers at a specific date and time. The results of this study showed that EFL learners' emotional intelligence can significantly predict their verbal intelligence.

But much research has shown a poor understanding of NLP, and suffers from methodological problems as well. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of NLP techniques on young Iranian EFL learners' level of motivation, learning improvement and teacher's success. Sixty students from a junior school in Iran were randomly assigned to two groups of thirty each. The experimental group was taught from the prescribed text aided by NLP techniques. The control group received no treatment. In order to see whether NLP techniques had a significant effect on the learners' motivation, an Attitude/Motivation questionnaire was administered to the two groups before and at the end of teaching sessions that lasted for twelve weeks, in the form of a pre-test and a post test. The learning improvement was assessed on the basis of the related tasks administered to the students in both groups. Moreover, a questionnaire was administered to the teacher(s) in the form of an interview to see whether the application of NLP techniques was an added criterion to the teacher's success. The results of the independent samples t-test and content analysis indicated that the young Iranian EFL learners of English not only increased on their motivation level as a result of receiving NLP techniques, but showed a considerable improvement in EFL proficiency. Furthermore, NLP techniques contributed positively to teacher's success. The results emphasized the importance of NLP techniques in EFL settings by enabling the teacher to communicate better with students, strengthen the learning environment, and develop positive interaction that would increase academic effectiveness, motivation and proficiency of learners.
