Who hates Dick Cheney?
There will be a ceremonial staging/protest at Dick Cheney's office this Monday headed by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network. We will be dropping off petitions in protest of Dick Cheney's "oil contract." There will be MEDIA COVERAGE and our very own Dick Cheney mask. We plan for this to take place at either 12 noon or 5pm.

muzzo: Some random, interesting stuff
The National Student Labor Week of Action is fast approaching! Standing side-by-side with workers and their unions is central to the struggle for social and economic justice. The National Student Labor Week of Action is a perfect opportunity for us to raise awareness on our campuses and in our communities about corporate greed and capitalist globalization, the need to strengthen the labor movement at home and abroad, and the principled role that youth and students can play in building solidarity, working on local campaigns and fighting for a better world.

muzzo: Counter-Inauguration Activities
With thousands of activists coming to DC to participate in various forms of protest on Thursday the 20th, there are tons of fun events to attend.
This is the YDS plan for the next few days, for anyone who wants to come:
Wed., Jan. 19th, 9pm-1am
Underground Hip Hop and MC Battle Against
the Inauguration and the War
Cada Vez, 1438 U St., NW
(nearest metro stop: U St.)
$10 (no one turned away), All Ages
Benefit for Empower DC, a grassroots
organizing empowerment organization that
advocates for affordable housing, tenant
rights, section 8, inclusionary zoning, etc.,
and PVN Youth Camp, which takes children on
trips within and out of the U.S. to learn
about different cultures and struggles.
Thurs., Jan. 20th, 9am-12:30pm
DC Anti-War Network permitted rally and march
against the inauguration.
Meet at Malcolm X Park (Meridian Park on maps),
16th and Euclid St., NW
(nearest metro stops: U St. and Columbia Heights)
March begins around 11:15am, down 16th St.
towards the White House ending at McPherson Sq.
Park (15th and I St. NW) around 12:30pm.
Afterwards we may attempt to protest along
the inaugural parade route.

Thurs., Jan. 20th, 7-9:30pm
Film screening and panel discussion
Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin
Provisions Library, 1611 Connecticut Ave. NW,
2nd Floor
(nearest metro stop Dupont Circle, north exit)
$8
Bayart Rustin played a seminal though
little-acknowledged role in the civil rights movement.
An African American Quaker,
socialist, and openly gay man, he was
profoundly influential on Martin Luther King
Jr.’s evolving philosophies about peaceful
social change. The organizer of the historic
1963 March on Washington, Rustin’s sexual
orientation prevented him from having a more
visible leadership role in the movement.
Fri., Jan. 21st-Sun., Jan. 23rd
Progressive Democrats of America Summit
School of Law Auditorium, University of
the District of Columbia
(nearest metro stop Van-Ness/UDC)
$25 student/senior/low-income
For those of you not quite sure you’re a
democratic socialist, but sure that you’re
at least a liberal Democrat. YDS will
have a table at the Summit.

Hello fellow Democratic Socialists. This community has been created to help spread the word that a new chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists has been formed in the DC area. I'll be posting our activities and some discussion pieces for anyone who wants to broaden their knowledge of Democratic Socialism.
Go visit www.ydsusa.org for information from our national chapter, and to find out some more information about who we are and what we believe. Then join, because the next few years promise to bring lots of action and discussion.
