Today, the dream for a Palestinian state lay even further as a dream than when it first became to be discussed in the 1940s. The cloth of time and conflict rested a speck of thick dust over the once a Palestinian claim for a secular democratic state founded on Palestine-today Israel, West Bank, and Gaza. This article aims to resurface the Palestinian nationalist objectives' heydays in the 1970s, when the act of imagining a state actively took place, from the perspective of a Turkish intellectual, Osman Okyar. The memoirs of Osman Okyar from the Second International Symposium for Palestine, Kuwait, in 1971 will be used to uncover how the Palestinian Liberation Movement (PLM) articulated the structure of their dream state in the 1970s. And how this dream is voiced by the movements' ideologues such as Khalid Walidi, Yusuf Sayegh, and Nabil Shaath. Okyar's detailed notes of the conference offer an alternative perspective to the long-forgotten goals of the Palestinian Revolution with his unique viewpoints on that significant moment of history that one can only get from the people who were there at the moment in time.

Following the attacks, numerous scholarly studies have confirmed that anti-Muslim prejudice, commonly referred to as Islamophobia, has become a prominent feature of Western societies. The perception of threat at home placed Muslims at the focus as the Christian West's "Other." Within this context, this study contributes to the debate on the meaning of 'Islamophobia' based on generalizations, assumptions, and stereotypes of Islam and Muslims. Following discourse analysis as its primary methodology, the article deconstructs the representations of Islam and Muslims in the most popular digital war game, Call of Duty. Thus, this article contributes to how digital war games communicate misleading stereotypes and have been involved in stigmatizing Islam and Muslims and perpetuating Islamophobia in the context of the US-led Global War on Terror. Based on its analysis of the game, the article concludes that the stereotyped group is portrayed more often in a violentterrorism context than in a nonviolent context where a solid associative link between terrorism and Arabs is established.

It attempts to assess how the relational construction between colloquial culture, the cultural construction of national characters and the state discourse are intertwined in defining the self and the other in the development of Turkish national identity. The article seeks to highlight the importance of previously neglected late Ottoman and early Republican colloquial Turkish political cartoons. This approach is crucial to any attempt at capturing the voice of nationalist discourse in the early Republican period, where the perceived image of the Kurd as the significant internal other is tainted forever by its supremacist origins.

My article is a monographic study that aims to contribute an original source into the literature. The study is originated in a serendipitous discovery of rare collection of Tarik Mumtaz’s political satire gazette Karagöz published in Sanjak of Alexandretta between 1933-1934. For a long time this publication had gone unnoticed and remained an untouched yet potentially valuable source for the study of Sanjak’s history. Various sources have documented the Alexandretta dispute, but scholars have almost entirely privileged on the dispute itself, emphasizing mainly on the political aspects of the period from 1936 to the inclusion of the Sanjak to Turkey in 1939. However, the scholars failed to engage in deeper analysis to examine the content of the popular print media to consider its importance in perception building in a province where the national identity building was the main theme. I hope this research will contribute to the formation of an interdisciplinary approach to this specific era in Turkish history.

However, when the Palestinian Liberation Organization failed in presenting an effective challenge to the political and economic independence of its society, the Palestinians turned their faces towards a new hope: Hamas.
Hamas or Islamic Resistance Movement was endorsed as an alternative to the Palestine National Movement under Yasser Arafat in the dawn of the First Intifadah, in 1987. Hamas increased its popularity among the poor and the young by sponsoring an extensive social service network and conducting an armed struggle through militant attacks against Israeli targets. These empowered Hamas’s reputation within the Palestinian society that was disillusioned with false hopes.
The tragedy of September 11 in 2001 shifted the focus of the World on the radical Islam and Hamas’s political challenge in Palestine. By the year 2006, Hamas was more than a terrorist, militant organization. It became a political entity with high popularity rate among the younger generation of Palestinians. Hamas’s rise followed by its unexpected 2006 victory set the stage for a power struggle against Fatah, the party of the charismatic leader of the Palestinian National Movement Yasser Arafat which was inherited by Mahmoud Abbas pursuing his death.
The purpose of this research is to analyze and understand the components of the radical Islamic movement in Palestinian society that identified itself through Hamas and its transformation from a militant movement to a political party within the period of 2001 to 2006 national elections.

The emergence of Turkish nationalism prior to World War I opened the way for various ethnic, reli... more The emergence of Turkish nationalism prior to World War I opened the way for various ethnic, religious, and cultural stereotypes to link the notion of the Other to the concept of national identity. The founding elite took up a massive project of social engineering that now required the amplification of Turkishness as the founding concept of the new nation-state. This concept was shaped by the construction of various Others as a backdrop, and for Turkey in many ways, the Arab in his keffiyeh and traditional garb constituted the ultimate Other.
In this nuanced and richly detailed study, Ilkim Büke Okyar examines the development of Turkish national identity from the 1908 constitutional revolution to the inclusion of Alexandretta in 1939, using the lens of contemporary political cartoons. Okyar brings the everyday production of nationalist discourse into the mainstream political and historical narrative of modern Turkey. In doing so, Okyar shows how the cartoon press became one of the most important agents in the construction, maintenance, and mobilization of Turkish nationalism, reinforcing a perceived image of the Arab that was haunted forever by its ethnic and religious origins.
