Heavy rain hit Central Finland and North Savo by Saturday, with up to 20 mm expected in some areas, according to Juha Jantunen, on-duty meteorologist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
"That's about a quarter of the entire month's rainfall, so it's quite a lot for a 24-hour period," he said.
Temperatures in the country's rainy and cloudy areas were expected to remain below 15 degrees Celsius. The precipitation will move northwards during the day, according to the forecast.
The rain system already brought a good deal of rain to South Savo and Southeastern Finland overnight. By Saturday morning, nearly 18 mm had fallen in Mikkeli and 15.4 mm in Varkaus.
Meanwhile, Lappeenranta and Kotka in the south-west received around 10 mm of rainfall.
Southern and Central Finland will see drier conditions on Sunday. Temperatures may reach 20 degrees in some places, while it will be cooler — and possibly wetter — in the north.
"In the north, however, heavy rain may still fall on Sunday, with 15–20 mm possible in some places," Jantunen said.
Conditions are set to become warmer next week.
