Guidelines for user discussions on Yle’s services and social media accounts

Join the discussion! Share your thoughts on our services and social media channels. Your opinion is important to us. We may use your comments as such to enrich or develop our content.

To participate in discussions on Yle's services, you need an Yle ID.

We expect online discussion to be conducted in a good spirit, with respect for the opinions of other users.

Users are always responsible for the content of their posts, whether the content is text or other material. You can use your own name or a pseudonym. Please choose an appropriate and recognisable username.

Please do not choose a pseudonym or write messages that offend human dignity, incite criminal activity or are otherwise inappropriate.

If you pretend to be an Yle employee, your comment will be rejected and your participation in the discussion may be limited.

Moderation

Discussions on Yle’s own platforms and social media accounts are moderated either before or after publication. Moderation is carried out by moderators from Yle and STT. We use artificial intelligence to assist in the process and the AI makes moderation decisions based on our guidelines. All decisions made by AI are carried out under human supervision.

Feedback and complaints

You can report inappropriate comments on our discussion platforms using the inappropriate comment button. If you encounter inappropriate discussion on Yle’s social media channels, you can report a comment on social media or notify the administrator in a private message.

You can send feedback about moderation to our customer service. Anyone not satisfied with a single moderation decision can appeal the decision through the District Court of Helsinki.

If we have published incorrect factual information, you can send us a request for rectification or a response.

Yle’s discussion policy complies with Annex to Journalistic Guidelines and the conditions of the EU Digital Services Act.

This discussion policy is equivalent to a Terms and conditions document in article 14 of the Digital Services Act. Traficom is monitoring on how EU:s Digital Services Act is followed.

Before the update on 4 May 2026: Discussions in Yle's services and on social media accounts are moderated either before or after publication. Moderation is carried out by moderators from Yle and STT. Moderators use artificial intelligence to help filter out messages that are clearly illegal or violate these discussion guidelines. The decision to approve a message is always made by a human.

After the update: Discussions on Yle’s own platforms and social media accounts are moderated either before or after publication. Moderation is carried out by moderators from Yle and STT. We use artificial intelligence to assist in the process and the AI makes moderation decisions based on our guidelines. All decisions made by AI are carried out under human supervision.

These guidelines replace the previous guidelines for discussion from 2019.
