_11:39 am_[terezakarenina] | Hello all! I am new here and stumbled across this group while trying to find the answer to a specific question about yoga. I had been taking a Hatha Yoga class for about a year and a half, it was once a week and lasted for 2 hours including the 25 minute yogic sleep at the end. It was wonderful I loved it so much and I loved my yoga teacher who had been practicing and teaching herself for 30 years. Anyway my teacher moved away and they could not find anyone else to take the class so I no longer have class to go to! I did try yoga classes at my local gym but they were nothing like the proper class I had done before The Gym yoga classes were made simple and short (45 mins)to suit the gym.So I am now trying to find a way to practice on my own at home. And I have bought some books and video's but I don't know how to put I routine together I would like to practice every morning for about 30 mins and for a period of 1 or 2 hours a few times a weeks when possible. All my attempts feel very unstructured and don't know what combinations of postures to use or when to counter a twist or a back bend. I am beginning to feel like I am losing touch with yoga rapidly and it is very disheartening as I was just beginning to really get to grips with it and see what it was capable to doing when the class was stopped. Any advice on how to proceed or books to recommended will be gratefully received! Thank you, Tereza.P.S. I also did an Ashtanga class for a short time while at college so I have some knowledge of that practice also but not much. (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_4:37 pm_[birdofparadox] | Introduction Hi there! The quick and dirty introduction: I'm a 30something chick living in the wilds of Mississippi with four furry children and a significantly less furry wonderful husband. I've been practicing yoga -- solitarily and through studios -- for about 4.5 years now (some years more diligently than others.) My local studio is almost exclusively Vinyasa-oriented, and I love the playful, kinetic style.I begin Yoga Teacher Training in one week. It will be a near-year process (200 hour curriculum, plus personal practice, practice at the studio, as well as assisting with other classes) and I'm very much looking forward to the journey. What drew each of you to yoga?I began yoga in desperation: I am the sort of person who internalizes all my stress, and was generally becoming an angry, miserable person because of it. At first, it was all about stress-reduction, and it was an excellent way to reduce the tension in my life. Soon after, I began to notice the transformative power yoga has, as I discovered amazing things about myself through my practice. My body has become an oracle of sorts to me, and I enjoy my time on the mat because it gives me the opportunity to face myself and the world with new eyes.I'm looking forward to getting to know you (I really believe the English language deserves a word denoting You all aside from y'all.)Deirdra (Comment on this) |

_5:46 pm_[primalfire] | Recent Essays The One We Love is Not the One We LoveOften times when in a deeply loving relationship, it may be discovered that one is in love with the self-projections one places upon the other, instead of the reality of the person you are in love with.http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/42639.htmlMind is the Magician which creates Your universe. When we learn to step back, and observe the mind, our manifestation-machine comes under conscious control. What we wish to manifest then becomes a choice of consciousness. Instead of drawing to us all the results of unconscious patterning, we instead are able to create in our lives the choices and results which we want.http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/40049.htmlConsciousness and Energy in the Individual and WorldThere are techniques to self-observation which can stabilize the mind, calm emotions, and provide optimal physical health. When we start observing and consciously choosing our language, the recognition of how we speak, of the impact we have on others, and eventually the source-thoughts come progressively into our awareness. Instead of just using language to define our perceptions, language becomes a tool to create perception.http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/40724.html (Comment on this) |

_4:35 pm_[primalfire] | Essays: Tantric Consciousness and Gap Technique Essays: Gap Technique and Tantra YogaTwo recent essays.Technique: Shifting Gap Intuitive-Logic MethodBetween the left and right brain modes of operation is a space, a razor-fine line which can be walked. Shamans would call being in the space the ability to be in both worlds at once, the conscious deliberate world AND the surrendered mysterious energetic world. For me, this space is another representation of the ‘GAP’, the ever-present unknown which makes up the greatest majority of manifest reality, the realm of infinite potential. http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/26371.htmlTantra Yoga and Technique of Building ConsciousnessTantra yoga is able to use any action as a means for self-realization, recognizing and incorporating into its practices the universal laws of attraction and repulsion, and integrating with the underlying unity beyond them. For clarity, tantra yoga has a scope and potential far beyond the sexual aspects typically identified in the Western world.http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/24040.html (Comment on this) |

_8:27 am_[luvey] | A Stiff Body by Erich Schiffmann "Yoga, the Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stilness" Learn to be more interested in the feeling - tone of your body than how deep you are in the posture. Learn to create an energy flow that is attractive to you. Do this by pressing into your edges with teh perfect degree of current and the perfect pitch of breath. Realize this is not a function of how flexible you are. A stiff body can do this just as beautifully as a flexible one. The beautiful inner music-the inner feling-is the yoga, not the achievement of elaborate postures. And be assured, your body will grow more beautiful and become strong and flexible by being played beautifully. (Comment on this) |
