Treatments of teacher research remain directed mainly at clarifying the content, the status, and the boundaries of the research practice engaged in by teachers and describing how teacher research contrasts with "university research" with regard to these elements. The well-supported, university-affiliated teacher research group was comprised of from 19 to 20 teachers representing a wide spectrum of grade levels. All on the high school and college level taught English. Ethnographic participant observation occurred over the span of two years. Case studies of three members of the group illustrate the three global positions taken by members in the teacher research group: a "teacher empowerment" position, a "social change" position, and a "professional development" position. The concept of ideology was utilized to emphasize that beliefs about society, politics, and cognition are intimately bound up in the teacher researchers' different perspectives. Analysis of the ideological positions that developed within thiA teacher research group, along with the conflicts and interchanges among the participants, demonstrates that there are important divisions within the teacher research movement that are intellectually creative and socially important. (Contains 42 references, eight notes, and three figures which present a synthesis of the commonalities and differences among the three positions.) (RS)

To preserve the aesthetic integrity of individual videos produced as part of a series, individual videos are not classified into topical categories. Topics of videos in the bibliography include emergent literacy, reading comprehension, word identification, prewriting, English as a second language, collab-rative writing, literature-based classrooms, and multicultural education. In addition to information on how to obtain the video and a detailed review, each entry in the bibliography presents classificatory information under the descriptor "suggested specific uses"-subject matter audiences fo:: which the resource may hold special appeal and specific topic or problem areas about which the video may prove insightful. Videos in the bibliography were produced between 1984 and 1992, although not all videos indicate when they were produced. (RS)

It conducts a comparative thematic analysis of a set of interviews with school-and board-level stakeholders of internationalization alongside a critical policy analysis of a key provincial policy text. We find that ESA-based internationalization is largely run out of internationalization offices resourced to focus on student recruitment and administrative support, with oversight of homestay and custodianship being significant components. The more idealistic visions of school internationalization emphasized in provincial policy and some school discourse occur in a more reactive fashion. On-the-ground educational support of these newcomer ESA students is shouldered by schools and educators within their existing and limited capacities, while the intercultural dimensions and benefits remain largely aspirational.

Ideology plays a prominent and underestimated role in the group dynamics and activities of teacher research groups. Treatments of teacher research remain directed mainly at clarifying the content, the status, and the boundaries of the research practice engaged in by teachers. Treatments of the topic also often describe how teacher research contrasts with university research with regard to these elements. However, the differing ideologies of participants, especially in the areas of research, teaching/learning, and writing, have been little noted, despite the key place that these differences may hold in the overall project. A study was conducted which focusud on one well-supported, university-affiliated teacher research group over a period of 2 years. The group was comprised of from 19 to 20 teachers representing a wide spectrum of grade levels. All on the high school and college level taught English. The concept of ideology was utilized to emphasize that beliefs about society, politics, and cognition are intimately bound up in the teacher researchers' different perspectives. Analysis of the ideological positions that developed within this teacher research group, along with the conflicts and interchanges among the participants, demonstrates that there are important divisions within the teacher research movement that are intellectually creative and socially important. Furthermore, educational progress does not demand homogenization of these differences. (Contains 29 references.) (HB)

Concepts of place and situation were used as heuristics to extend secondary-level students' problem-solving abilities and literacy engagement and-using activities revolving around youths' locations within family, school, and community ecologies-to stimulate reflection on their personal and socially situated identities. The structure of secondary schooling, including its engagement of placemaking processes, is not conducive to the promotion of pedagogies that beneficially support the learning of this student cohort.
