dannm I want to start classical singing. Any tips for a beginner, especially on resonance? I think it's head resonance, but I also heard its chest so now I'm confused. Also I find it hard to keep a steady vibrato pulse, making me think that I haven't got vibrato quite right. Any tips on this too? Thanks (Perform in the Garden)

ballerinachika6 Hello! I just joined, and I am new to LJ.My name is Karin Annalia, and I am 14 years old. I am a singer, actress and dancer. I sing pretty much anything but country and pop, but mostly opera (I am a coloratura soprano). I dance, and I take tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and pointe (my favorite is pointe). I love to act, and I have acted in over 20 plays/musicals. I perform in some school and camp productions, but mainly in a local professional theatre.current mood: tired (Perform in the Garden)

5:52 pm - Community for Brits interested in theatre!
dinenglamor Hello. I'm sorry if it's not OK to advertise communities here; I checked the user info but couldn't see anything against it. I hope this is of interest to you, but if it's not, I'll take it down - just tell me to. I'm from a new community, britishtheatre. While it's still at fledgling status, the idea is that it's a place where anybody can discuss theatre from all over Britain. There you can review plays, make queries about them, encourage people to see a fantastic small production you've seen, or simply rant about an awful recent experience. Please have a look at it and feel free to join if you're interested.current mood: lazy (Perform in the Garden)

10:12 pm - Newbie!
broadwaygirly23 Hi everyone! My name is Lori. I'm 15, and I live in Columbia,South Carolina(the most boring place in the world). Musical Theatre is pretty much my life. I want to be on Broadway more than anything else! I take dance classes(tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, and lyrical) and voice. I just got into theatre last spring and since then I've been in community theatre productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Grease, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! This Fall I'm in a community theatre production of Beauty and the Beast in which I'm playing a townsperson/column/whisk...not exactly the lead but you got to start somewhere. This seems like a really nice community, and I'm glad I've found a place to discuss my interests with people like me. friend me or IM me at fame239.current mood: lazy (Perform in the Garden)

6:07 pm - Program in Italy and update about the recording of my recent recital (x-posted in a few places)
juliatorgo Hey everyone! In two weeks, I'm off to Rome, Italy to participate in Operafestival di Roma's Summer 2005 program. I'll be singing in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Puccini's Suor Angelica, and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Have any of you done similar programs? Do you have any advice about Italy, singing, stuff to remember to bring, things to watch out for, etc? I would really appreciate your thoughts as this is my first time doing a program like this and I've never been to Italy. Thanks!Also...A few weeks ago, I posted a link to a website where I have put the recording of my entire May recital. I just wanted to thank all of you for the incredible feedback that you have given me; I was absolutely blown away by the amount of kindness, support, and helpful advice that I have been getting! I just wanted to let you all know that the site is moving to a more permanent location and that while the old site will continue to work for a few more weeks, here's the new one (which will exist indefinitely and will be updated on a monthly basis with information about my vocal adventures and plans along with any new recordings I might have):www.juliatorgo.comAgain, thanks for everyone's wonderful responses. If any of you have any additional thoughts or reactions, please do share them with me, no matter how negative or picky they might be. With appreciation,Juliacurrent mood: creative (2 Performers | Perform in the Garden)

2:33 pm - Recording of my recital is up!
juliatorgo Hello, again. I posted earlier in the month about my recital which was this past Saturday, May 14th in Los Angeles. I was incredibly pleased with how the performance went (I've never before been happy when listening to a recording of my own singing) and would love to hear what all of you think. Thanks to the wonderful computing abilities and generosity of mechanyx, who created and is hosting a site for me, my entire program (along with some photos) is now on a single website: www.richhorner.com/julia Please go there and listen to at least a song or two and let me know what you think! My personal favorites are "Black Swan", "Zdes Horosho", "Porgi, amor", "O del mio dolce ardor", Monica's Waltz", and "If I Loved You." I'm a 19 year old soprano and will likely end up being a lirico spinto. Please feel free to be critical and as specific as you want to be. I'd appreciate any and all feedback =) Thanks! Everyone in this community is fabulous. I can't wait to get your input. -Julia current mood: excited (Perform in the Garden)

11:56 pm - Recital! x-posted in a couple of places (please don't hate me!)
juliatorgo RECITAL IN LOS ANGELES If any of you live in or near LA: I'm going to be singing my first solo voice recital on Saturday, May 14th at 7:30pm at a church near Pico and La Brea. I'll be singing opera arias, art songs, and a few musical theater pieces. There will also be refreshments following the performance and we could hang out and chat for a while. It's completely free and there is free parking adjacent to the church. If any of you guys are free that night and are interested in going, please e-mail me at JuliaTorgo@gmail.com. What do you guys think of the program? Does anyone have any advice for (a) the day of the recital, (b) the days preceding the recital, (c) what to anticipate/plan for, (d) what to ask the people at the church to have ready for me besides a piano (particularly things that might not be so obvious), (e) anything else? Any advice would be great appreciated! Thanks everyone! current mood: creative (Perform in the Garden)
