or safety and for defense, people in the Middle Ages formed small communities around a central lord or master. Most people lived on a manor, which consisted of the castle, the church, the village, and the surrounding farm land. These manors were isolated, with occasional visits from peddlers, pilgrims on their way to the Crusades, or soldiers from other fiefdoms.
In this "feudal" system, the king awarded land grants or "fiefs" to his most important nobles, his barons, and his bishops, in return for their contribution of soldiers for the king's armies. At the lowest echelon of society were the peasants, also called "serfs" or "villeins." In exchange for living and working on his land, known as the "demesne," the lord offered his peasants protection.
__________________________
We have decided to restart this community and create a new role playing kind of thing in which people's entries will progress the story of our choosing.
If interested: You ask for a character from the list below (also listed in profile of the community) if you're interested and I'll hook you up with it. Once you have your character I'll add you to the community and feel free to post. There are rules to follow (also see below or in profile) and failure to meet the rules and requirements will result in your leave from the community. Other than that the point of this is to have fun and get your creative minds working!
The Story: Set in Medievel times. A monarchy. We're going to have a king, a queen, a princess, prince maybe, royal advisors (oh just see the list below) and then we'll see where it goes. We plan on having scandals, romances, murders, plot twists. The whole thing works but we need people for that obviously.
The Setting The kingdom where the king and queen rule is called Aeres. The regions within the kingdom are: Persephone, Dionysos, and Apollo (castle located at Apollo).
NOTE: EVERYONE LIVES IN AERES UNLESS STATED OTHERWIES BELOW.
For instance Princess Cassandra is visiting Aeres from Aphrodite and her lady in waiting is from Aphrodite, specifically Io. Unless you tell me you want to be from a different kingdom I will place you in Aeres. I only ask for a region for your title. The region where you were born. That region is not where you are located now. I hope this is clear. If not then let me know.
Closest kingdom is Valhala. Regions within that are: Cheiron, Eos, and Dawn
Next kingdom over is Archemedis. Regions within that are: Athene, Hebe, and Erinyes
Next kingdom over is Poseidon. Regions within that are: Erida, Hephaistos, and Iris
Next kingdom over is Aphrodite. Regions within that are: Fates, Hyperion, and Io
Next kingdom over is Hera. Regions within that are: Leto, Nereids and Kronos
Next kingdom over is Hestia. Regions within that are: Helios, Prometheus and Winds
Archemedis, Aphrodite and Poseidon are on not friendly terms with Aeres.
Map by pianotide (thank you!)
It is a feudal system in place in all of the kingdoms and most are not well off. Archemedis and Valhala are pretty well off. Archemdis hosts the greatest library and the greatest revolutionary thinker. Aphrodite is a beautiful yet corrupted place, Poseidon is a sea port and slightly rough. Hera and Hestia are your average Medieval kingdoms.
Our Kingdom Aeres is a very rough and tumble kind of place and the ruler tends to be on the offensive. They usually start and finish the wars. Too much money has been placed on the war efforts.
The Year I'd have to guess 1100's. Don't quote me on that though I'm not a Middle Age history buff so if that's wrong don't sue me.
Please note: when asking for a character please tell me the title, what region/kingdom, your name and whom you serve

(Note: If you have an idea for a character and it is not listed or you are dying to be something that has already been taken please let me know.)
If you have no idea what one or more of these characters are then please go to google.com and type in "What did a ____ do in the Middle Ages" the blank being the character.
Tips to sound like your character and not yourself:
1.) Think about what kind of personality your character has. Are they snooty, angry, cold, happy all the time? Do they have a weak spot? Do they have a strong one? Think about your character.
2.) It helps if you want to just write a little paragraph describing everything you can about your character and go back to that for reference.
3.) If you see something that affects your character, think of not how you would react to it but how your character would react to it. You may personally hate killing people but if you thought over tips 1 and 2 you may realize that your character is angry and has a violent temper. Therefore if you notice another character has shoved your character, you may conclude that your character would at the very least shove back even though you personally may take deep breaths and just keep walking.
4.) Plan your entries. I know we rush people all the time to post, post, post but tell us to chill and think about your entry. Get into character by thinking like your character. Actors have to do this all the time and sometimes it takes them hours, sometimes seconds. If you need any help with this ask either dolphinsapphire, auroradream or aznpegasi3003 for help.
Also another quick note: Please slow down the pace of the community. Everyone is diving into their stories and while I enjoy the fast pace, some people want to at least develop their plots more thoroughly than one entry. If you want to go faster and may get bored, don't go on for a few days and then read everything and react. Or you could learn to have more patience. One or the other.
Rules
1.) Read the previous entries you have not read already to know what is going on. This is to avoid people's stories overlapping. Failure to do so and I will erase your entry, not the previous one.
2.) Do not post out of character. This means do not write, "Sorry I haven't written in a while guys. Forgot I was in this :)" or something like that. Or, "Sorry but um what am I supposed to be doing right now? Who am I?" if you have any questions please drop me a comment in my own livejournal or e-mail me.
3.) Post as often as you possibly can. These kinds of stories are not fun if no one posts. If you do not post for a month then I will remove you from the community.
4.) Do not post more than two entries in a row of the same character. We may end up with double characters to write about yet please do not post about the character twice in a row. Failure to comply and I will remove however many entries you have put up.
5.) Must sign off with, "The Lady (character's name) of (region they were born in)" "The Lord (character's name) of (region they were born in)". This depends on the occupation. "The Baron ___ of ____" or, "Queen ___ of ____" or "The Royal Advisor, (character name) to (king or queen) of (region where king or queen rule)". If you need help figuring out your title please let me know.
6.) Optional but preferred: Speaking in slightly old English. At least with the utmost proper grammar unless you're a serf, peasant or slave. If you are in the upper class then please do sound like it. If you speak in fragments and include such words (but not limited to) like, "totally cool man" or "that was just phat my homies" I will ask you to rewrite it.
7.) Nothing ridiculous in terms of storylines. This is slightly serious. It'd also be cool if you interact with everyone else's storylines, rough up their storyline ideas, change them, destroy them, make them better, whatever. That's what will make this a good community. Interaction.
8.) No killing off characters permanently that are played by someone. If you do this I will delete the entry and warn you. Do it again and I will kill you off.
