Today, we sound the kudu horn to celebrate 137 years of the JSE, an organisation that has served as an integral part of South Africa's economic framework. The JSE was founded on the premise of raising the capital required to extract the wealth that lay beneath the surface of our country. Our 137th birthday reflects the progress of our country, its people, and its institutions. On this special occasion, we reflect on a journey that began in 1887 and mark several achievements as symbols of our success in the growth of the JSE. Some of our success markers include our transition to electronic trading, the introduction of innovative sustainability focused financial products, our participation in the United Nations Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance, and the diversification of our business. This includes JSE Clear, JSE Investor Services and JSE Private Placements, representing our resilience and commitment to growing shared prosperity. The transformation within the JSE and that of our leadership team that is now 60% female-led demonstrates our belief in a gender inclusive society and echo’s our pride in the inroads that we have made toward maintaining our good standing as a trusted marketplace. We appreciate the support we’ve received from our employees, the various entities listed on our exchange and the partnerships we have formed in the public and private sectors that have propelled us forward. Join us in celebrating this incredible milestone - Today we convened at the Sustainability Markets event in Cape Town to showcase the latest initiatives in South African Carbon Market and highlight the services available in our venture partnerships with Xpansiv and Evident. Key discussions focused on the evolving landscape of carbon markets, the development of legal frameworks for carbon pricing in South Africa and sustainability reporting for corporates. As the JSE, we remain committed to playing our part in furthering the sustainability agenda.
