These assemblages forms have many previously described and well known from the Palaeozoic strata in north Gondwana and other parts in the world. The study revealed that the sedimentation was repeatedly interrupted , as is confirmed by stratigraphic breaks. It revealed also that the Ordovician assemblage as well as the lower part of the Silurian are composed mainly of acritarchs and less chitinozoans. No miospors have been recorded. The real sporomorphs are recorded only at the upper part of the Silurian with smooth spores (Retusotriletes, Ambietisporites, Archaeozonotriletes), verrucates ones, and Emphanisporites with porrly defined ribs. The Early Devonian is characterized by zonate-camerate, pseudosaccate, a relatively simple spore types and verrucate ones, that is beside a considerable increase in diversity of the phytop...

Research paper thumbnail of Fine Structures of Some Bryoflora Spores from Saudi Arabia

THE EGYPTIAN JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGY, 2011

Spores of some species of different families of Bryophyta from Southwestern Saudi Arabia (Asser r... more Spores of some species of different families of Bryophyta from Southwestern Saudi Arabia (Asser region) are studied for the first time by light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These species are: Funaria muhlenbergii Turn. (Funariaceae), Bryum argenteum Hedw., B. capillare Hedw. (Bryaceae), Tortula atrovirens (Sm.) Lendb. (Pottiaceae) and Hypnum vaucheri Lesq. (Hypnaceae). The aperture region consists of a leptoma in all spores. The spore wall includes sclerine (the distinction between exine and perine may be difficult to define) and intine. The results show that the surface ornamentation of the spore's sclerine could be divided into four types: type1, baculates in Funaria, type2, scabrate-verrucate irregular distribution in Tortula, type 3, dense piloid in Bryum and type4, scattered piloid in Hypnum. The surface ornamentation is a regular piloid in Bryum argenteum, while its irregular abnormal piloid in B. capillare. These characters are established and reflecting t...

Walp.) plants. The extracts were added alone and in combination. The treatments were applied just one day before irrigation. Data obtained revealed that the growth, yield and protein content of cowpea were stimulated by 10% aqueous extract of M. parviflora and the mixture of 10% Malva with 20% Artemisia. The data also showed that the soil fertility was improved. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjb.v42i1.15870 Bangladesh J. Bot. 42(1): 99-104, 2013 (June)

Palynoflora are found to be derived principally from Pteridophyte spores (vascular land plants, 10 species), Gymnosperm pollen grains (13 species), Angiosperm pollen grains (14 species) and rare contribution of aquatic palynomorphs (9 taxa). The Palynoflora showed that the palaeoenvironments were favorable for different plant groups. The recovered microflora, therefore, indicated that the age nearly to Late-Albian (Kharita Formation) - Early Cenomanian (Bahariya Formation). Two distinct assemblage zones have been distinguished (I: Elaterosporites klaszii, Afropollis operculatus and II: Elaterocolpites castelainii, Cretacaeiporites polygonalis). The palynological data e.g. Elaterosporites klaszii, Afropollis operculatus, Cicatricosisporites minutistriatus, Perotriletes pannuceus and Elaterocolpites castelainii, Cretacaeiporites spp. proved also that the north Western Desert of Egypt belongs to the North Gondwana phytogeoprovince during the Cretaceous time.

Weissia perligulata Flow. (Pottiaceae) was new record to Afr1. In addition, Hyophila involute (Hook.) Jaeg., (Pottiaceae), Ptychostomum arcticum (R. Brown) J. R. Spence ex Holyoak & N. Pederson and P. cyclophyllum (Schwagr) J. R. Spence (Bryaceae) were new records for Egypt. Fifteen species were new to Nile delta. This raised the number of identified moss taxa recorded from Egypt up to 192 taxa, from Nile delta 51 taxa and Daqahlia province 39 taxa. Data on the up-to-date classification, habitats, voucher specimens and distribution of the enumerated species and the descriptions of the new records including the photos have been provided. In this work, spore morphology of eight species, Tortula muralis, Tortula brevissima, Aloina brev... more In this work, spore morphology of eight species, Tortula muralis, Tortula brevissima, Aloina brevirostris, Syntrichia leavipila, Microbryum clavallianum (Pottiaceae); Funaria hygrometrica, Entosthodon muhlenbergii, Entosthodon attenuates (Funariaceae); were examined by Light microscopy (LM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All spores are small; the length of polar axis is between 7.5 ?m and 18.5 ?m, equatorial diameter is between 10.5 ?m and 27 ?m. The smallest spores of them are Tortula brevissima and the biggest spores of them are Entosthodon attenuates. The shapes of the spores are determined as suboblate for Tortula muralis, Aloina brevirostris, Syntrichia leavipila, and oblate for Tortula brevissima, Funaria muhlenbergii, Funaria hygrometrica, Entosthodon attenuates. The ornamentation observed can be regulate, verrucate- regulate, baculate, verrucate, clavate- foveolate, clavate, foveolate- psilate on the distal pole, spore ornamentation of the proximal face is different...
