The Zero Card newsletter's Journal (original) (raw)

[The following is the beginning of a story for the July "Losing It/First Time" issue]

It was nice, the way we kissed for the very first time. ( Read more...Collapse )

Later throughout the next week, we would encounter a number of other First Times together, but at the time, that lingering first kiss was enough...

I'm ALWAYS looking for submissions. The less material I have to write personally, the faster I'm likely to get an issue published!

Each issue has a theme. (see list of current themes here) You don't absolutely have to fit the theme, especially if you have something interesting to say. And there's a wide range on how you want to interpret the theme.

For example, the theme for the upcoming July issue is "Losing it: virginity and first-time sex". This could be interpreted as the very first time you had sex, i.e. when you lost your virginity. OR it could be interpreted as the first time you had sex with a particular person. OR it could be interpreted as the first time you had a particular kind of sex, or a particular aspect of sex, such as the first time you performed oral sex, or the first time you had an orgasm, or the first time you had an orgasm through oral sex!

If you want, you can check out the Assignment Desk. This is where I have a list of specific articles or general ideas for articles that I'm looking for. Feel free to suggest articles, or submit an article not on the list!

And one other important point: Length. Size does matter! An article of about 500 to 600 words fits nicely on one page. Obviously, a half-page article should be about 250 to 300 words. Articles longer than 600 words will either be trimmed, or will be split across two or more issues.

Welcome to the journal for The Zero Card!

The Zero Card is a small (4-page), Toronto-based monthly newsletter, primarily about the Tarot, as well as "things gothic, and the occult". We used to also include "fetish" in that list, but we seem to be getting away from that aspect of "the scene".

Submissions of writing and artwork are encouraged and greatly appreciated. Always welcome are gothic and fetish-themed short stories, poetry and interesting artwork, and photography.

*I* am your congenial host, Mike Jourard, the editor and publisher of The Zero Card.
