The focus is on units such as «good as bread,» «gentle as a lamb,» «busy as a bee,» and the like. The primary objective of this paper is to highlight web corpora as a potential source for collecting comparative phraseologisms, illustrated through the example of the PDRS 1.0 web corpus. By compiling an inventory of phraseologisms under investigation, we provide insight into how positive characterizations of individuals are expressed in media discourse through adjectival comparative units. Additionally, we explore what qualities are perceived as good through these phraseologisms and examine the standards by which the idea of goodness is articulated. Data were collected from the PDRS 1.0 web corpus, and results were compared with materials from Matešić 1982 and Marjanović 2017. The research demonstrates that web corpora are indeed a suitable tool for gathering the linguistic units in question, as control sources do not show a significantly higher number of units of this type. Confirming literature claims, the study suggests that research similar to ours should also include low-frequency units. However, due to the necessity of considering frequency as a criterion for selecting phraseologisms, and the lack of sufficient examples for certain units in the corpus, whether a unit indeed constitutes a «genuine» phraseologism cannot be determined solely based on corpus material, which is a limitation of our approach. The central positive character trait, namely goodness, is expressed through the following standards: bread (and various dialect forms or localisms denoting it), mother, angel, health, good day, soul, all of which are tied to the Christian tradition.

The first part of the paper focuses on the approach to new words in the context of linguistic culture, i.e. on the presentation of research that considers the new lexicon from a prescriptive point of view. In the second part, we present the research on new words in the form of monographs and papers published in scientific journals and collections of papers. The third section introduces neological dictionaries of the Serbian language, with the aim of gaining insight into Serbian neography. We close with a list of works cited in this paper. Neology is gaining momentum as a field of research in the 21st century, and, in Serbian studies, neological phenomena are observed mostly in connection with word-formation and normativistics. Neological topics have not been sufficiently covered in the monograph form so far. New words are, for the most part, examined in studies conducted in the fields of lexicology and word-formation, and are usually the subject of scientific papers published in journals and collections of papers, where they are considered from a variety of diverse linguistic angles (most common are the papers dealing with the formative and semantic aspects of the new lexicon, and the use of new words in different language varieties, i.e. in functional styles, professional languages and jargons, and there are very few works focused on new words in Serbian language teaching, or the sociolinguistic and cognitive-linguistic aspects of new lexemes, for example). Few in number are the doctoral dissertations and master's theses with a neological topic, but their existence indicates that neology is being given some attention at universities. The manuals dealing with new words in the Serbian language from a prescriptive point of view are usually intended for the general public and are written wittily, in an interesting and comprehensible manner, and commonly end up combined into practical manuals. Such manuals (by individuals or groups of authors) are generally composed of articles previously published in daily and weekly newspapers, or in scientific journals, which makes the topics covered more easily accessible to a wider readership. An overview of neographic works in Serbian studies shows that the shift in Serbian neography occurred at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. By 2008, several dictionaries of new words had been published. Serbian neography owes a lot to individual scholars, primarily Đorđe Otašević, the author of several neological dictionaries, and Tvrtko Prćić and colleagues, who are behind the lexicographical work concerning neological Anglicisms. In recent times, noticeable progress has been made in the field of neography in Serbian studies; the growing interest of linguists in this field has already resulted in several new dictionaries of new words.

We applied an interdisciplinary approach – we draw on Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model of (professional) development, sociological analysis of the context and linguistic analysis of the text. A hundred Serbian female scientists filled in the online questionnaire. They reported moderate satisfaction with their work. Thematic analysis of their answers yielded nine general work satisfaction improvement factors: Creating a fair and effective management and improving relations with superiors, Improving social relationships with peers (Bronfenbrenner’s micro- and meso-system), Improving technical resources, Increasing salaries, Professional improvement support, The modernization and application of scientific work, Improving human resources, Establishing transparent, consistent and fair system rules (exosystem) and Combating cor...

Having defined the necessary terms (discrimination, gender equality, social feminine title and so on) and after a brief review of the social context that made social feminine titles a hot topic in the Serbian media in 2021, we analysed the relevant media texts that present the various positions on social feminine titles. The method of qualitative content analysis was applied, as it was deemed the most fitting methodological procedure for extracting both the arguments put forward in favour of, and those against social feminine title use. The research corpus consisted of media texts and official announcements by Serbian linguistic institutions on the subject of social feminine titles, collected from January to September of 2021. The basic assumption was that the dominant attitude in the media texts would be against new feminine title use, but also that both supporters and opponents of new social feminine titles would feel discriminated against, whether the discrimination came via opposition to or, conversely, via obligatory and consistent use of these terms.

The form and the content of fifty resumes were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, inductive approach. Personal life stories described in an intimate and submissive tone were predominantly present in resumes, compared to the description of work experience and competencies. Concerning the content of the resumes, two core categories emerged - I as a worker and Employment needs. Finding support in the literature dealing with postsocialist transformation in Serbia and Hofstede?s theory, results are interpreted as pointing to the opposition of two value systems in Serbia: that of the authors of ?unsuitable? resumes, reflecting collectivistic and feminine values and that of the job market in Serbia, reflecting manly individualistic and masculine values.
