Churches and Monasteries

Saint George Church

According to Patriarch Paul Massaad’s story, the Church of St. George of the Melkite Greek Catholics was built in 1709.

St. Doumit Church

In 1728, the Church of St. Doumit was constructed by Cheikh Moussa Al-Khazen on a land belonged to the Khazens.

The Monastery of Our Lady of Annunciation-Khazen

After cheikh Bechara Jaffal Khazen’s death in 1825, the patriarch Youssef Hobeish turned Khazen’s villa into a monastery.

Monastery of the Archangel Michael

In 1731, the Basilian Order founded the Monastery of the Archangel Michael in Zouk Mikael after they bought a land from Al-Khazens.

Monastery of the Annunciation for the Basilian Chouerite nuns

The first cornerstone of the monastery was laid on March 25th, 1724 on the feast of the Annunciation, & was achieved in 1737.

Monastery of the Religious Sisters of Charity

In 1847, the Latin Sisters of Charity bought a residence that belonged to The Khadras and turned it into a monastery.

Our Lady of Deliverance Monastery

The Monastery of Our Lady of Deliverance in Watta Nahr El- Kalb, Zouk Mikael, was built on a site overlooking the coastal plain.

Our Lady of Aid Church

In 1850, Cheikh Abbass bought stones to build his mention. During the Peasants Revolt, Elias Menayar decided to move these stones to Harat El-Mir in order to build a church in the name of Our Lady of Aid. The Zouki revolutionists moved the stones obeying their leader’s demands In 1966, a second Church in the name of Our Lady of Aid was built in Harat El-Mir.
