EMEM (HBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin 0.02% EDTA; 5% CO2, 37C.
Karyotype: 2n = 44
Derived from the cornea of a normal rabbit. The line is suitable for primary isolation of rubella virus in addition to propagation and assay. The cells are not susceptible to poliovirus 2, coxsackie A9 and B5.
