CACO-2 (original) (raw)
This is the complete description of the cell line that you selected. By clicking on a generic term (e.g., SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding index (e.g., index of species), while by clicking on a specific term (e.g., retinoblastoma) you will go to the list of corresponding cell lines (e.g., retionoblastoma cell lines).

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). The addition of Bovine Insulin has been reported to be useful where there has been slow growth of cells. Split sub-confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C. NB: During routine subculture the cells should always be subcultured before they achieve confluence.
Passages: 20; Karyotype: Hypertetraploid, modal No 96
Isolated from a primary colonic tumour in a 72-year-old Caucasian male using the explant culture technique. Forms moderately well differentiated adenocarcinomas consistent with colonic primary grade II, in nude mice.
Research council deposit: No; Price Code: A;
Validated by: isoenzymes (species confirmation)
