Reg News with Reg Dixon - Ely Online (original) (raw)
I was told recently about an old Fenland custom which was completely unknown to me. "Bull Shaving" was very popular in the Parish of Little Downham in the late nineteenth century. Read about it here!
Also read my new poetry corner page here!
Any locals out there know of any examples of the wit & wisdom of the fens. My old man always quotes the late Hubert Hemmant of Pymoor to me...
"That’s as safe as a Church tied to a hedge that is !"
Here's one I read recently in a novel...
"Never kick fresh cow pats on a warm day".
Any more ??
