Alexandre, DJ, Paolo, http://gcc.gnu.org/codingconventions.html has some instructions how to handle libtool, but I do not see this reflected in our current practice.

And according to http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2007-02/msg01097.html upstream libtool has a different (much more intrusive) change. I assume my one-liner is preferrable for 4.1 and 4.2 instead of updating libtool on these branches ;-) and for mainline my patch is okay until you import upstream libtool at one point?
