Are DPD and BID universal terms? If not, it might make sense to reference a definition (or provide one).
The DPD and BID acronyms are extensively used in the 754r conference calls. Densely packed decimals, what DPD stands for, appears in the draft found at http://754r.ucbtest.org/drafts/754r.pdf. However, although both BID and DPD have been voted as valid decimal FP formats, there's no draft yet that mentions the former.
