Calling it "disks" was actually on the table, but that isn't a proper noun, but a generic word. It is both confusing if you mention it in conversations ("my disks is crashing" sounds like bad grammar, not a bug report), and it would as well suggest that this handles everything around disk drives (which isn't true), and is the one and only thing to interact with disks (which also isn't true).

Projects should have proper nouns to tell them apart from other projects. Otherwise, why bother, and just call them "kernel", "browser", and "instant-messenger".
