Thanks Matthias, Appreciate the feedback. I'd like to get some more feedback as well, especially form Oracle/Azul guys, as i'm aware they have their own tools, and I don't want to get down the contribution path for it to go no-where.... anyone else for comments please? Cheers Andrew

Hello Andrew , I think such a tool would be a great contribution .
I hear often customers ask about timezone updates , and such a tool would give them the ability to update to the latest IANA data (instead of waiting for an OpenJDK release with new timezone data ).
Best regards, Matthias
Hi, I would like to gather interest/comments on whether it would be of interest or appropriate for the contribution of a JDK TimeZone Updater Tool to the community? Here at IBM we have a timezone updater tool which we have extended to work with OpenJDK JDK's (jdk8 and above), and would like to contribute to either OpenJDK, or if not suitable then to AdoptOpenJDK. It make sense to offer upstream first, so would like to get feedback on the idea please? A quick summary of the features are: Support rearguard JDK tzdb.dat standard format for JDK8,11,13+, both Hotspot and OpenJ9 Provided build script downloads the latest(or specified) IANA data and builds the packaged tool with rearguard format. The built standard-alone updater tool has multiple modes of operation: Using an interactive GUI: Select to update a specific JDK home Scan and update all JDKs found From command line, Interactively or Silent/Automated: Scan and update all JDKs found Scan and update all JDKs based on a selective search configuration Scan and discover what JDKs need updating (no update performed) Scan and update specific JDK locations Future expansion would be the addition of vanguard support. Comments welcome?
